FLITE TEST - Turnigy 1300mAh 11.1V 3S 25C Lipo Battery - REVIEW

We just did our latest episode on the Hobby King / Turnigy 1300 LiPo

NEW Flite Test - REVIEW
Hobby King
Turnigy 1300mAh 11.1V 3S 25C Lipo Battery

Flite Test - Turnigy LiPo pack - REVIEW (7 min 21 sec)

This week Josh and Josh review Hobby King's Turnigy 1300mAh 11.1V 3S 25C Lipo Battery Pack. Hobby King has been taking some flak for their batteries. Some claim they are overrated and don't live up to the advertised specs. We chose a popular size with a mid-range rating and put it to the test.

Spec.
Minimum Capacity: 1300mAh
Configuration: 3S1P / 11.1v / 3Cell
Constant Discharge: 25C
Peak Discharge (10sec): 35C
Pack Weight: 116g
Pack Size: 71 x 34 x 24mm
Charge Plug: JST-XH
Discharge plug: XT60

CAST & CREW:

Josh Bixler - Host (Experienced)
Josh Scott - Host (Noob)

Chad Kapper - Producer/Director
Michael Cameneti - Producer/Videographer/Editor/Composer
Eric Monroe - Videographer/Pilot/Builder

Just a quick comment about your video.

1)You can use a JST with a 3 cell battery. The number of cells has nothing to do with the amount of current that is produced. You mention that a JST connector should only be used on a 2 cell battery because a 3 cell battery will develop more power.

2)You should always use a Lipo safety charging device. Just because you are standing next to the Li-Poly battery does not mean it will not ignite. Yes you can do something faster, but if you charger switched to charging 4 cells, that is going to catch fire pretty quick!

3)Question on your radio setup. Did you leave the throttle stick at the same position for the whole test or did you maintain the same discharge current?

I do like your setup, a very nice way to show the important characteristics of a battery. What might be interesting is to compare the Watts of power to a "higher quality" battery with the same motor and prop setup.

1) Good point. But Josh was just trying to encourage the use of something more substantial.

2) I agree. You can never be too safe.

3) We maintained a fairly steady 34-35amp discharge.

Thanks for the feedback!

Ye it would be nice to compare to a more expensive lipo and also give a temperature reading during and after test on the lipo to show the heat build up and how much strain its under.

Dear friends I need an opinion.in fact I m new in electric power.I have a 4.5kg(9 lbs)weight downwibg semiacrobatic plane but unfortunately I dont know my motor's specifications(my ESC is 80A) because I bought it from someone.but I can fly slowly 1/4 throttle about 7-8 mins with my turnigy 5S lipo 3.0 20C.I want to know if I buy 4S 4000 or 5000 mAh lipo can I use it like 5S?or should I buy always 5S or 6S lipos?thank you.

Sorry Dave, we launched an updated site and the lists are still up, but not directly linked from the front page.

Try www.progressiverc.com/Servo.html for example or www.progressiverc.com/3S_Lipo.html

We'll update our site and the first post here to have direct links soon.

Cheers,
David
