Thanks. Having the detailed renderings makes it easy.

The pilot's weight is pretty insignificant in itself. But where it's located is pretty critical. If the model balances with the 8 ounce pilot then I can put a video camera system in it's place and take flight videos from the pilot's location. Then I'd need working gauges!

Thanks, Mike. The more I get done on this model the more I realize that I've got a lot more to do! The motor will take quite a bit of detail work.

I'm working on the MG mounts right now. They are a little higher than scale to allow for clearing the motor intake and exhausts. The front mount pins on the MG slide backwards in the slots and then a pin is put in the back to secure the MG.

Here's a shot of the left MG mounted and the ammo belt in a scale location. I'm going to make scale ammo covers out of thin balsa.

Thanks, lots of fun detailling the WWI birds. MGs sticking out, exposed cables
I finished mounting the MGs and painted the mounting rails. The Rittmeister can't wait to fire these guns!

I worked on the tail skid tonight. The skid is attached to the lower fin with music wire bent into two U shaped pieces. The two wire pieces are connected together with brass tubing inserted into the fin and skid and glued in place. The two pieces of wire are held together with copper wire wrapped around the two sides and soldered in place.

A piece of music wire is also used as an attachment point for thin bungee cord which will act as a shock absorber.

I put the wings and tail parts on to measure the declage and incidence. The horizontal stab was not lined up with the lower wing so I had to sand a little wood from the stab saddle.

The plane wearing the scheme is a DV isn't it? I thought with the level of detail you've gone too you would want an original DIII scheme. It will look cool though.

Yeah, I'm stuck on the paint job because it's my favorite of all time. I don't plan on entering any competitions with this one. MVR did have several all red D.IIIs and it certainly is possible that they didn't get painted red all at once. But I don't really care about that either way.
