New L2 Airframes Super Scooter build thread

With the new batch of Super Scooters in folks hands, I thought it time to
start a new build thread. Everyone's free to contribute.
There are also some great previous build threads.

I've just gotten started, and I'm waiting on a few supplies so this'll
come in fits and spurts. The new kit stays pretty true to the original.
No major design changes, but a couple little tweaks.
My build photos so far.

Still undecided how many mods I'll make to this one. Maybe drag spars
and a little reinforcement of the fuse but trying to keep it pretty simple
and close to stock build.

I am waiting on some gear for mine, but figured I can at least start worrying about the build.

From the instructions, it looks as if the elevator push-rod is meant to go along the outside of the fuse. Am I seeing that correctly? Would there be much benefit in splitting the fuse and running that rod internal, or would that be straying too far from the intent of the kit?

Hmm, good question. Short of running it completely on the outside
I think the usual approach would be to cut a groove in the side of the
fuse to bury a plastic housing for the rod flush with the skin. Another option
would be to sharpen the end of a brass rod and drill in from the back at
an angle, and again embed a plastic housing for the rod.

Hows the build going?

I just recieved my Hs 85mg servos and electron 6 reciever, + 4 cell 1400 Mah bat pack and switch. So now I can start my build.

I purchased some Goop and tolulene at ACE as well as Gorilla glue that cures fast and is clear but dries white!

I am planning on filleting the fuse and running a carbon tube in the center with a nyrod running through it for the elevator. Should I glue the spar in with the White Gorilla glue or Goop?

carbon spars

I see you rough the carbon spar but dont forget to rought the inside of the alu tube as well because on my jw i have had them come lose even with roughing the carbon. I think thats why they have lenghten the joiner tube as well.

Cheers Dion

That is a good point and worth doing but I don't think it's quite as critical for the
Scooter because it doesn't have full 2 spar system and fat wing that transfers
all the bending load into linear loads on the spar.

Between crazy work low motivation (short flying days), I've been stalled on all
my builds and repairs lately, so my Scooter build is coming along slowly. I need
to get working on it again soon.

Yes highly motivating to hear how good the conditions were while I'm stuck at work.

I am going with balsa tail feathers as well. Here are pics of the tails I cut this morning on the laser in my CAD/CAM lab.

Thanks Dragon. I will cover with Ultracote then weigh them and the coro tails and see if I saved any weight. This was one of the first projects I have done on the laser. Lots to learn still. A perk of the job.
