EF 58" Extra-300 BUILD THREAD -- ELECTRIC!

Hi All,

The extra's are now here and ready to go and as I believe Dan has sold out of all of his 1st shipment of 58" extras!!!

I am hopefully receiving mine tomorrow, it is the red and blue version and is going to be all electric powered!!

Here is my setup:

Torque Revolution Motor and Airboss 80A speed Controller running on an APC-E 15x8 prop
Flight Power Evo Lite 5S1P 3700mAh batteries
Hitec HS225MG servos on ailerons and elevator and a Hitec HS5625 on rudder
Hitec Electron 6 receiver

I am hoping for an all up weight of around 5.5lbs and it should be ballistic on this with 10minutes plus flying time from the batteries.

As I believe the model goes together really easily and can be ready to flying within a day, tedious work such as the cutting of the trim on the tail plane to mate to the fuz is done etc etc

I will be providing a build thread and lots of pics and videos very soon.

any questions fire away,

cheers

Graham

Looking forward to it!

Thanks for starting the build thread! I'll be watching it closely, especially now that the 3DHS 55" extra is out and being flown. I'm trying to pick out my plane for the spring already.

Can you give me a measurement from the tail wheel to the top of the rudder? (wondering if it will fit in the car! )

Thanks.

I'd also like to know how well the LG area is reinforced. Being so light, these plane's don't take a rough grass landing very well. I hit LVC on my 47" Yak and it ruined the gear area with very little to reglue to.

when I get the tailwheel and rudder all in place I will let you know mate (should be lated tonight)

As for the UC area EF have really thought this out well, there are lots of strengtheding pieces of ply around the area and the plate itself that the UC attached to is fibre glass!
As well as this there are several addition CF rods prob about 4mm that attach to the UC area and to the front of the plane for extra support, hope this helps

Well after another few hours of doing the little other bits shes ready to go, made up with it what an absolute pleasure it is to build, the quality is just awesome, everything goes where it should and with 100% accuracy.

The bad news is I gotta wait until the weekend to fly it now! but as soon as i do I will get some vids and pics together.

final pics of the build:

Opened the box now - WOW superb quality, even comes with wing bags
Mine's the blue and yellow version and I had intended to power it with glow (OS 70 Ultimate) but I might have to change my mind, it would be a shame to cover it in oil - its just the thought of the cost of those 5S packs

I know they can be expensive but at the same time so can an big four stroke, the engine most people are going to be using is the YS 63 or ideally th Saito 82 if that is any help, but with electric, you don't need to buy fuel and your model comes home clean!!

this is a pics from when you first open the box (this is the yellow and blue)

The measurement is 13.5 inches or 34cm from the top of the rudder to the bottom of the tailwheel, failing that, buy a new car lol!!

The only 4s packs I have are for the vanquish so they are only 2100 and I think they are a little small, so unfortunately unable to help, sorry, but I think 5s is the reccomended setup anyway.
