Hi Lost, nice vid, thanks. But it seems the front wheel was not retracted totally, am i right(the background of your vid is a bit dark)? Cus in the aero-fever vid it seemed the front wheel was hidden properly inside the fuse when retracted.
Nice work man, Can't wait for your field flying vid. Best regards Rich |

Hi Rich,
It's getting there. I've not yet adjusted the nose wheel. At the time I took the video it was actually catching on the nose of the heli. I had to dremmel out the wheel area a bit to clear the gear. I don't know if it will be able to be completely enclosed but it'll be very close. It's just some simple adjustments. Once I make the adjustments I'll let ya know if it goes fully into the body. |

So I've adjusted the front wheel the max that I can the way the linkages are currently setup and it's better but still not fully hidden inside the body. I'll need to pull out the ol' dremmel and remove some plastic from the front mount and readjust the front retract arm but with a bit more time it'll be able to be fully retracted.
It looks to me that the airwolf they have over at aero-fever.net is extremely similar to the one at helidirect. The servo mounting is different that's for sure. The publicity photos on both sites seem to be of the same heli. Even a few of the helidirect photos show the green plexi looking retract setup (you can see the green through the holes in the frame). Definitally not what I got though. It's hard to tell from the video they have if their retracts go up higher than mine do. The angle in the video never gives you a good side shot. There is always an angle on it that you can't tell for sure. Last edited by L0stS0ul; Oct 09, 2007 at 03:40 PM. |

Hi Lost, you're right bout the angle of the camera when the vid is shot, but as long as you can get it to the max i think it's good enough and really coool. BTW, Albert(owner of aero-fever) told me that he even put a computer cooling fan inside the fuse to cool the ESC, maybe you can think about it too. I suppose the temp inside the fuse would be rather high.
Thanks for your update man. Hope you can get it flying in the field really soon. Video pls. Best regards, Rich |

I have 2 flights on the airwolf now. It does get quite hot inside the fuse. There is no air cooling provided by the front canopy. It's completely enclosed. Once I get to the field and do some forward flight instead of these hover tests I think it will get plenty of air though. Definitally have to keep an eye on it.
It's been to windy to fly it down at the field. Hopefully this afternoon will be better. Cold fronts been coming thru apparently. |

Camera is finally working. Here's some pics of it showing how far I was able to get the nose wheel into the fuse.

Hi Lost, great work there, the nose wheel is now retracted very nicely, and i think that will be the best one can get with this fuse. Not yet maiden it in the field yet? I'm just concern how the setup will affect the performance in ff and circuits.
Thanks for sharing man, i have to show your previous post (how you got the fuse) to my wife Best regards, Rich |

I maidened the airwolf at the field yesterday
I'm editing the video now. The heli is currently tail heavy so it was ballooning a bit in forward flight. I'm going to have to add some weight to balance it. I did do one FFF roll with it that was uneventful and even pulled off a few other fun manuevers. Not going to try 3D with it but in idle 1 I know that it can definitally still do stationary flips and inverted flight. Flight time was set to 5 minutes on the timer and it still had juice left. May not have hurt flight time as much as I thought. If anything once I get the heli balanced it will be more stable in FFF and circuits. Will have the new video up soon. |

It seems you're having lots of fun with your airwolf Lost, and thanks a lot for sharing. So you mean the added weight doesn't affect too much of it's performance, and that's really good news, and if ever you think it's safe to do some mild 3D, pls have it recorded and some vids would be nice.

I don't think I'll ever be doing much 3D with the heli but for sure rolls and loops are not a problem. I did a roll in the other video. The hel is plenty powerful to probably do tic-tocs but that would probably be stressing components a bit much. Afterall it is a scale fuse and I think I'll make sure to keep it that way

You're right Lost, i also don't think one should do much 3D on a fuse heli, but it's always nice to see the airwolf to fly(hover) inverted and doing some simple loops and rolls. Good luck on your project and it seems you're at the final fine tuning stage.

Inverted hovering is definitally doable. I think I'm actually going to make some head adjustments on it. I've currently got the head setup for 3D and switching to idle 1 is rather intersting. Almost feels touchier than it did before the fuse. Going to drop it back to sport settings and adjust my head speed down a bit. That should level out the flight time in idle and make the heli less twitchy. It's even pretty twichy in standard mode. A scale fuse should make nice smooth transitions and right now its jerky. The next flight should be the last tuning flight. I should have it flying how I like it by then

Congrats Lost, can't wait to see more vids of your airwolf. But why is that adding the fuse(weight) made the heli even twitchier? And idea?
