To make it nice :)

After getting Anton's Jart looking all purdy, I have to have a nice purdy one myself. So this is a quick how to on how I make it nice.

Start with a fresh set of carbon wings, straight out of the bag and trimmed of excess phat.

Take a deep breath. They are gunna get ugly before they get pretty. It is important that beauty is more than "skin deep"

It's time to do the "block". Just 120 grit paper on a bit of wood that will start to hone the surface down. Sand along the foil, and work methodically across the surface of the wing. Soon the high spots will "wear" down - it's starting to get there.

Tips and edges

The tips need to be made tuff, and the leading edges to be made proper. A high phat splooge mix is made, and piped into a funky little plastic baggy.

Sam, are you painting the Mylars with a Primer instead of a "Paint"?

I would think that that would make the sanding much easier.

The mylar is painted with 2 pack white as a 2 part strategy to kill pin holes and as a distinguishing layer for the next steps. It sands just fine and it takes about 20 minutes from freshies to knocked up nasties. Though it is helpful to have this layer a little harder to sand.

Samo, thanks for posting this, timing is good for me, wings going in bags pretty soon. What kind of filler is in the "splooge" .... micro ballons? Bottom of the wings carbonmite? And will they get similar treatment? Should I be more patient?

Satisfaction starts with a good impression. The leading edge is the first foot in the door when making those air molecules squeal with deeelight.

Prefered materials

Samotage prefers the following materials in various mixes to alter the physical states of epoxy. Nothing sands smoother than q-cells. Quartz spheres filled with joy and delight. Cabosil makes it "tasty"

Bench Fly

The 45 mins cure time in the hot box is time to mark, cut and prep the fuzotage for the first bench fly.

For a full carbon Jart, the mass of all parts right now is 630 grams or 22.2 ounces.

nasty air molecules

Nice one Samo,

Your techniques are much appreciated; I hate those molecules!
