They dont always abide by it but at one place where I fly they have clothes pins with numbers on it. the first thing you have to do before you even break out your planes is check to see if someone pulled a pin of the back of the sign and clipped it on top. But once again only works if everyone follows the rules.

Just like JéPé's HARD landing in his movie, this construction really saves a lot of damage.

JéPé is still flying with the Pyranha showed in the movie.
As you know his second Pyranha went trough a wall ... unrepairable ... so he had to repair the Pyranha from the movie with the sticks hanging out and so the first 3 Pyranha's are still alive and kicking!

A guy at my field finally delivered the new Blue Angels decals. They'r very nice, made out of vinyl that does not fade, and very easy to apply, just peel off and stick:

Decals

They look like the Bill Fullmer decals I have for my Cox F18 and yes there very nice and go on very well and stick very well. Herb you should make sure that your plane is clean with some dish soap and water so they stick better. If they are dry transfer decals make sure the plane is dry

The decals were made by Jim Hanson on his computer at home. He flies at my field. He also made nice paint masks for me, but I prefer the stick on ones. He charged me $10 for everything.

It's a sad story ... just talked to JePe and he's wasting immense amounts of time trying to answer endless questions like "how you glue tab a into slot b" and "how do I fit springairs in the MiniViper" etc

Which is of course taking up a lot of his precious time and distracting the Dutch Master from his most important work: designing the world's best edf planes ...

Maybe a JePe hotline 1-800-calljepe ...

Poster size photo illustrated instructions you can glue over your bed?

Maybe a 2 hr vhs video included with each kit, with introductory footage from Amsterdam's best late night performers?

I dorked my Pyrahna several times. She has gone back together and has not gained much weight either. Only problem I have with the jet is the roll rate and the high landing speed causes issues on tight fields. It will however go like stink, or somewhat stink. I have a /3 and 12 FAUP's.

Love it, just wish that it was less than 240 miles away from me right now!!!

Since I have been selling these model and I have built most I would welcome any questions a builder may have. My goal is to make access to his kits quicker and to help lessen his time burden from these type calls.

I thought the Pyranha was almost ARF ...

You can also look on my JéPé section for some details, sorry it is in Dutch, but i believe some more pictures can't harm. Also my versions differs a bit of the actual version, but soon i will build a new one in a new threat.
Building threat of my 1th Proto Pyranha

I almost fly the Pyranha for one year now, and it's time for the my third setup. I couldn't stand those Lipo's so i skipped the 12x1950FAUP setup. I hope i can test it today, but the weather here in the Netherlands is poor (snow, wind, cold, etc ...).

Just finished - Lipo's in Proto Pyranha

1th setup: 11x1700AUP on JETI 30 amps - total weight 895 grams
2th setup: 12xCP1700 on JETI 40 amps - total weight 1090 grams
3th setup: 4S3P Kokam 1500 (4500) on CC45 - total weight 955 grams

The third setup gives 4500mah, so i believe someone has to stand beside me to keep me awake ...

I see what you mean - after flying the Pyranha on 12 FAUP's for 5-6 mins I get bored and land it. I really would not know what to do with a longer run time ...

That's why i will land it after 3 minutes or so. Also to take a look how hot the cells get? I haven't build any cooling holes in it yet, i want to see the difference. Also because Lipo's don't like those freezing temperatures, the voltage drops very fast.

If everything is oke after the first 3 minutes i will bungee it again for some 3 minutes ... without charging. And after that i will charge it and look how much capacity i have been using.

I also don't wan't to fly those (expensive) things completely empty, but some more flighttime can be very usefull if you want to fly some full aerobatic programs ... LOL

Today, everything went as planned!
My Pyranha really burned in Hell!

I don't know how many "mah" i burned today, but i had enough on board ... i really needed a brake before flying the pack empty in a second attempt and again it wasn't empty after the second flight.

I had no cooling made in the pyranha because it's freezing cold in the Netherlands right now. And the pack was only 40-45 degree celsius after a full throttle burnout from 3,5 minute.

Looks very promising ...
Anyone still having doubst about a MEGA?

Not bad for the first flight on a new pack and ... "diagonal" wind, the tail was shaking a lot but it stayed on!

I have reloaded the LiPopack carefull yesterday, here's the curve with 2 Amps:


2850 of 4500 mah after 6-7 minutes of almost continuous full throttle ... damn what a shame, i could have made a third flight!

Rectracts, hmmm... first try to put some servo's in the thin wing!

That EDF goes fast and smooth, very nice!

1 - The way Herb measure speed wind direction play no role.
2 - You could have made a 3rd flight but by not to you are gentler on the cells. They heat up faster when they are getting closer to empty.

Have fun and may you log many many EDF flights in 2004!

Before start soldering i spent a few hours on drawing multiple soldering methods. I decided to go for a 6 x 2S setup which can be connected parallel to a 4S3P pack. Advantace is that i can measure if some cells are out of balance and charge them seperately if needed.

It's all new for me, so i hope this is a good method to ensure many happy flights.

Yes I thought of a hotter motor (B40-8L which I have lying around) but who's going to be able to see this thing as it gets too far away, unless I paint it all red, green or yellow stripes - yuck ...

New Ramp

Hi Herb, is that JB Weld gluing the uprights to the rails on your new ramp? It looks good should work with any plane. Did you wax the rails with something? I dont know how adjustable I can make mine as its got a piece of 1x6x5 pine running down the center for the release mechanism.

The wing bottom really takes a beating at our field, esp. in the summer months when there's not a whole lot of green English grass

I think I'll have to resurface it soon (note 1/8th steel skid in the middle), as Bob's seems to be clearly faster

Could you please let me know what buggy launch/pedal launcher system do you recommend

Where can I buy it (if I don't want to built is mysefl ) ?

And, what is the minimal ramp lengh for such a 2lb plane ?

The launcher below has worked well for me (and a few others, Gregg and Doug for ex) for many years.

The JePe style dolly works quite well if you have a reasonably smooth surface (see Augustapower / Bob posts in the JePe F-16 thread)

I warmly suggest to all attempting to bungee launch a plane that they read very carefully about setups that have been proven to work .

Here's my setup, the only mishap I ever recall in four years was tearing off half of the tail off an FVK Salamander - and landing the rest of it safely a few hundred feet away .

Note that there is usually a very good reason for having the ramp components laid out in a very specific way.

The width of my car minus 1 inch . That comes to about 2 meters I think.

A longer ramp is preferable, so the model gets above stall speed when it leaves the ramp.

Also avoid using a long, weak bungee. Use a short (8 meter or so) bungee of minimum diameter 9mm. The strings do no work, so keep them as short as possible.

You need a quick, strong pull rightaway, for the reasons explained above.

That cat is sniffing glue...I think its time for an intervention! My cat rides the short bus as well though, every time I am building something she will jump up on the table and lick the wings or tail surfaces . I think she is trying to tell me I did not wet sand enough! Love the planes BTW...

... I don't do much wet sanding these days - I mostly used water based acrylics (tamiya) in my airbrush, so they can't be wet sanded. But the finish is still ok I think, and they are non-toxic. Also, the airbrush is cleaned with windex and never clogs.
