Alternative Servo Choices for Great Planes Reactor GP/EP 3D ARF 58"?
Great review! Davidsons states that he chose to use five of the Futaba S3102 servos instead of the recommended servos listed in the manual. I think that his choice is a good choice, but it never hurts to have alternatives. I would like davidsons and others thoughts on some alternative servos from HiTec.
The attached PDF contains a list of the Futaba servos that are shown in the manual (this is indicated by being shown as "RECOMMENDED BY GP". I have also listed Hitec servos that meet the same general torque and size specs.
I didn't include the Hobbico servos listed in the manual in the table as I don't know of anyone who uses them, and I am a little suspect of their quality (they may be re-branded Futaba servos, but I don't know for sure--if they are Futaba, I would consider them, they are cheaper).
I chose the HiTec brand as I have had good luck with them and I would like to know what others think of some of the alternative servo choices that are in the table.
The table in the PDF (which lists full specs) is sorted by price first, then it is split and sorted by function. The Futaba S9650 aileron servo (L) recommended by GP is (of course) the most expensive and Davidsons choice (J) is most reasonable, but is there a good HiTec alternative? Also, for davidsons build, Servo J (a mini) is a great choice for the ailerons, but wouldn't a larger servo for the remaining elevators and rudder with its supposedly larger positioning pot(s) be more accurate?
I would love to see what aileron servo and elevator/rudder servo choices you would make if:
(1) on a budget
(2) best cost/performance ratio (I'm guessing Davidsons would say his choice of five of the Futaba S3102 (item J)),
(3) best performance.
Reply's would be most appreciated. Oh - - sorry for the PDF, RCGroups won't permit an HTML table to display the info in a table. Thanks so much in advance.

The only others in your list that I have experience with are 225 MG's and 5245 MG's. Both of these would work just fine on the Reactor however you would probably want to do the case mod on the 225's (not sure if it's needed on the 5245's). If you don't, you will most likely at some point crack the servo case internally on the aileron servos due to the large ailerons....at least this is what I've heard from another Reactor owner who used 225's. The 5245's are more expensive and I have had issues in the past with 225's not centering properly however I have planes that currently use 225's. I've never had a centering issue with the 3102's. That's my 2 cents for what it's worth.
