Has anyone tried a larger battery for more flight time? Will a larger battery fit?

Wow, I went the other way moving from 2200mAh LiPo to 1300mAh. I get 10 minute flights on the 3S 1300's on an E-Flite 480 motor spinning a 10x7 wood prop doing scale flying with some sport. The lower weight 1300mAh LiPo balances CG better with the 480 motor and removed some weight.

To me, 10 minute flights are OK. The 1300's come down at 11.25V or more.

I am thinking of installing an autopilot (APM2) and am looking for 30 minutes with a safety margin.

Mines not completely built yet but 10 min flights are great for me so I guess I'll start off with 1800 mah and see what happens from there. I don't have any smaller and I really would like not to buy more batteries.

In the manual it says with the 480 motor a 12-6 prop can be used,I am useing this set up with 27 inch balsa floats .However it seems like this prop combo isnt used to much I think it works great was just wondering if the 11-7 would work better for me

I use 11x5.5 in four different airplanes this size so I plan to start with 11x5.5. I am more interested in power than in speed. Still building and waterproofing my taylorcraft floatplane and components so I have not flown my taylorcraft yet.

Got the wing done tonight, and hopefully will have the rest all done in another week. The build on this aircraft is really quite simple. Is the Taylorcraft quite stable in the air? I fly an E-Flite Advance 25E and I do pretty good, a little rough on landings yet, but I'm hoping the TC will be a little gentler than the Advance.

I did the exact same thing as you and I have the exact same motor as you as well. I almost never put anything but a 1300 in mine. Same prop too.

I went lighter with Hacker A 20 20L & 1300 lipo. I didn't want to splurge for the 480 because it was $89! Shows how prices have dropped. I get 10 minutes on 50% of battery. Took it to the field for the first time this year; but we were sitting on the edge of a storm system. When it hit, not even the swallows ventured out. Horizontal rain @ 60+ mph. We watched a funnel form, drop half way to the ground & then resolve.

Ive been running a park 480 1020kv motor with either a Xoar 11x5 or 12x5 on mine with Hyperion vx 2200mah packs and ex 1900mah packs and get an easy 15 mins with a good amount of aerobatics thrown in or 20 min scale like flights on them and average about 35% still left in them. I have been thinking about picking up some 1300 or 1500's to lighten it up a bit, even though it still flys great with the big batts.

I tried the 1500mah and its very light and floaty,,i like the 2200mah better as it makes the plane feel more solid and life like in the air.

Finishing up my TC build and anxious for its maiden. Did most of you start off with the suggested throws for rudder, elevator and ailerons? Hope to have her in the air tomorrow.

I do the same setup on all my planes,as much throw as i can get and use expo to soften up the center of the sticks,,,only thing you do need to watch out for with this method is too much elevator on war birds and other low wing planes as they will just roll inverted as you pull the nose up and just smash into the ground on maiden.

Guys what do you think the biggest differences are between the 910 and 1020kv 480 motor is and when it comes to float flying with the added weight of the floats which one would suit the taylorcraft better

The 910Kv motor is a dog. It's pretty shocking how much more power the 1020Kv has for being the same size and weight. Float flying or otherwise, stay away from that 910, it is not money well spent.
