Haven't had the wheel pants on mine in YEARS... lol It's a shame because it looks nice with the pants on, but I fly from grass, so they had to go. I'm pretty sure I run 2.5" wheels, and I drilled out the hole that the wheel pants are supposed to mount to, so I didn't change the ride height much, just got the bigger wheels.

There's lots of pics in my blog. It's on the 2nd or 3rd page now.

+1 to Jays quote. I run the soft foam treaded tires from Dubro 1.75"? Can't remember. Completely worn the tread off due to T&G's and 350' right down the runway flyin... 3rd set of tires
Besides, the factory tires are cr@p and gone in about 10 landings on pavement much less 350' of flying on two wheels on AC.

Thanks for all the advise on the larger wheels. Still waiting for my TC but I have another question. Seeing as it seems to be a little difficult to install the 2200mah batteries, would an 1800mah battery fit better. I know it would give you less run time but it is the same size battery that I fly in my Radian Pro glider and they seem to work good with a 480 motor. I know that the RP doesn't run the motor all the time, but I was just wondering if this would help with the tight battery area.

I use 1800mAh LiPo with an E-Flite 480 spinning a 10x6 wood prop. Plenty of power and balances the CG better on my TC. And for flight time, I set my timer for 9:00 and land after the timer sounds off. Still using less than 80% of the 1800mAh's doing mixed sport and scale flying.

Thanks Freddy, that answers my question. Nine minutes is plenty of flying time for me on each flight. I have more 1800mah batteries than I have 2200mah ones. I really am getting excited about getting my TC. I get it Wednesday but we are going on vacation next Sunday so I won't have a lot of build time. Uti want to do some of the mods that are suggested here. Like reinforcing the landing gear and front motor mount. Thank you again for your advise.

My Taylorcraft float plane is coming along nicely. I built a nice louver from Balsa and Basswood to keep water from being thrown into the air exit hole. Will post a photo soon.
What could I use to seal the wood frame inside to protect it from water?
Would water based varnish warp the frame or be too heavy?
Would thinned lacquer dissolve the frame's glue or cause the covering to come loose?
How about a MinWax oil based stain to seal it? Would that damage anything?

Mine is all stock except the float rear mount. I use a 480 and a 2200 3S battery and have had no problems with it. It will roll-loop-spin with the floats on. It is a great flyer. The foam Hobby Zone Super Cub floats are very light.and .work great

I had No 9 Trexler balloon wheels on my TC. I loved the look, some might find them a bit big though.

Sorry, no pics and I no longer have the plane.

Well I just called my LHS for a status on my TC that is supposed to be here today. No luck now it won't be here until Monday, and I'm out of town for a week. I speculate even after I paid him in full the day I ordered it, he forgot to order it. Now LHS owners you know why we buy on line. Horizon Hobby shows plenty of stock and I probably could of had it last Monday. Why try and give the local guy the business when even after taking your money they don't order the product. I'm steaming right now, have a mind to ask for my money back and order on line. Sorry about the rant.

Unfortunately, most single-proprietorship hobby stores cannot survive in today's market. The capital investment is too big for the hoped-for cash flow they can't generate; consequently, they open and close their doors with increasing frequency. Mom and pop anything-type stores find it very difficult to survive in today's internet/big-box store environment.

I'm sure a LOT of us have had the same issue. But there are times I need something and can wait so I use the LHS to avoid shipping $. And there's a lot of times I need 'something' and my LHS has it. I'd hate to lose mine.

Yes you guys are right. I would hate to lose my LHS also but it was a bit frustrating. After reading this forum for the last week and hoping for my TC on Wednesday I kind of lost sight that this is just a hobby. Going on vacation (that's if when you are retired time away can be called a vacation) with the bride on Sunday, with or without my TC. Sure to have a good time and I still have plenty of flying season left. Thanks for the encouraging words.

Got my TC today, so the LHS owner did a great job. He even gave me a great deal on some servos I needed for another aircraft build. The TC is a beauty and now I'm just making a few of the mods suggested here and then the build can really start. Will start full bore after our vacation. Did anyone strengthen the connection between the to elevator halves? I epoxied a small round piece of carbon fiber rod on the underside of the elevator for more strength at that point. I'm thinking of building the battery box I have seen on this thread.

Hey fellas,
I thought I would get on here and let you all know that I dusted off the TC (which is in mint condition) and took her out for a nice little evening flight. Now, when I say dusted off, I mean because I haven't flown any of my planes in several months because I have been working on the basement and I just got finished sanding drywall so there was dust all over my planes. Ha ha.
The TC sure does love to be in a knife edge doesn't it. Love this plane.
