Walkera 4#3 mods

I thought I'd start this thread to separate modifications from the general discussion thread. I've had my 4#3 for 2 days now, and have already stripped and re-built it with various mods
1, BA 2.5 servos. Held in place with double-sided tape. I had to trim a bit of plastic from the main frame for a good fit, the existing servo arms fit, the pushrods need to be shortened about 2mm.
2, Remove plastic cover from 4in1 to improve cooling.
3, Direct drive tail rotor using a 45mm. prop from a Plantraco Micro-blimp. To my amazement this worked perfectly. There are probably other props around that will work.
4, Base-loaded micro antenna, I got mine from Zebrahobby.
5, Semi-scale Bell 47 cockpit and tail boom, left over from putting a Ka226 fuselage on my 5#6.
6, Lowered and widened skids, again left over from the 5#6, and re-bent.
After all this I discovered I'd lost 2.5gm. off the weight!
I'm currently wating for an 0703 tx, in the hope I can lose some of the twitchiness by cutting down servo travel, and adding expo.

How did the stock heli fly? What did you not like about it? How long was the flight time?

Cool mods there!

A mod I would love to see is a "mothed" 4#3

skizziks, Yes the boom does flex a bit, but not enought to cause problems as the tail rotor thrust is pretty low.
Gino, Stock heli was fine but twitchy, can't tell you flight time as I never flew continuously through a full pack. Nothing I didn't like about it, but I don't trust Walkera servos, and prefer scale looking helis to pod+boom.
bekylane, It could be "mothed", but the cost of lighter servos alone would be more than the basic heli. It'll take a richer person than me to do that mod!

thumbs up!
i really like that bell 47 G style!!!
stock look is not realistic. (as most bigger rc helis look like unrealistic things).
i really like bubble canopys and grid tails.
regards!

The boom from the 5#6 is not that strong. It might be strong enough to withstand the forces exerted by the tail prop, but it's very prone to breaking in crashes. Especially since you now have some added weight on it...

You could make it MUCH stronger using a short 1mm CF rod hidden and glued inside it. It would hardly add any weight..

Otherwise, nice mod.

There are servos that are lighter than the BA2.5?

Where and how much do they cost? Not that i would ever consider buying them, but it really makes me curious..

What ever servos you try, they will need to be able to run on 3.7v and also the 4-in-1 will need to be able to supply enough current to power them. I tried some alternative servos on my Walkera 52 and they caused the 4-in-1 to reset.
