Another Dash 8 starts taking shape...
De Havilland Dash 8, Q300 series. Right now it's 36 inches long
and the wingspan will be about 35 inches. Will use twin GWS
EDP 100C motors (RS280) with EDP5030 props. Will most likely
paint in Tyrolean colors since they look so sharp IMHO.
This was a B757 Lifelike glider that I'm converting. I'll fill in the
area where the old wing was and cut out a new segment for the
new wing, which I'm going to scale up 10 to 20% since they are
so narrow. Should help it fly better.
Btw, I'm going to lose that hump in the fuselage there, don't
worry. Just part of the process of converting.
I'll post more pics as it progresses. Hope to get the wing built
today. Actually it's going really quickly now. Won't be long.

This site has just about any airfoil you can think of. Btw, it lists the Dash-8 in there being as
Wing Root Wing Tip
DHC 18% DHC 13%
Should I stick with the same one the real plane uses, or go with something else, like a Clark Y?

I went ahead and used the trusty Clark Y airfoil. Tail feathers are cut and hinged. I wanted to get a good start on the engine nacelles but time is limited tonight.

that's a nice look plane you are building i have brought
three of the 757 plane i started convert one in to a boeing 777
i have got the tail fin done .i saw the thread that fanman posted
about the flap i will love to add flap but that is extas weight
i have project go

Wow!! Looking good. Maybe i'm also going to build a dash instead of a boeing 757. It will costs less than the boeing because it doesn't nead those hardly in holland to find ducted fans. We only have those expensive german stuff in holland instead of the great GWS products that costs less but is hardly to find here

How are you going to make and attach the engine (and motors) nacels? I'm working on a twin from some rather sketchy plans and am trying to figure out how the power will be attached.
OOOO- I'd better not let my son see this, he's a full scale pilot and really wants to get hired on by a company flying Dash 8's.

I'm going to use blue fan-fold foam and just trace the plans with a razor for side and top views. If they come out ok and I'm happy with them, I'll install the motors/wiring and go from there. If I'm not happy with them then I'll just carve a couple using first a hot wire, then knife, that will be more solid (more of a pain though to build).
Hopefully the fan-fold method will work fine. Then I'll use Elmers Probond Poly-U glue to attach them to the wings. I'll post pics of how they turn out.
I'm making some really nice looking landing gear for it and will put the Curtek nav lights I got on it as well since I'll probably fly it more than the AN-225.

it kind of does look like the Q400. Hmmm, interesting.
Batteries, I'm probably going to use a 7.2V 720ma pack of NiCads for starters. What would you recommend?

I have a two bladed GWS prop (ok, several of them) but I'm
wondering would it be hard to make a 4 or 5 bladed prop like the
real planes have? I know it probably wouldn't be efficient inflight,
but it'd look great to put on for static viewing. (show off to
friends). Is there such a beast or would I have to make a couple
Another question. I bought a GWS flight pack and it came with a
Pico receiver. They didn't tell me I needed a crystal, so now I
have to order one. Anyhow, are these things good and reliable,
and how's the range on them? As you may have already
guessed I planned on it going in the Dash-8.

GWS does make a 3, and 4 bladed prop:
But don't know if they would work direct drive with your motor. I flew my Zero on both on the stock 300/gearbox that comes with the Zero. On 8 cells the 4 bladed was pretty cool, but the 3 bladed did not perform as well as the stock 2 bladed prop that comes with it.
The GWS single conversion RX are ok, I use them most of my "parkflyer" planes, but I would not use them around other planes, and definetly not my bigger, heavier planes (FV1000, SU31, or the dear departed Hellcat)

I have 5" props on my Dash 8, that 10" 4 bladed and the 9" 3 bladed would be HUGE on it.
Guess I'll stick with what I have.

Another Dash 8 project
It's great to see your Dash 8 taking shape. It really looks good!!
Keep on posting photos as you go along. Are you thinking of using ailerons as well, or will you stick to rudder and elevator?
My project is still in the planning stages, awaiting drawings, but seeing your project turning out so well is really encouraging!!
By the way, this is the livery I hope to use (a bit boring, but that’s how the dash 8’s looks like at my local airport – when all the planes are repainted)
