The Electra gear isn't known for breaking off like the Spark gear, shouldn't be an issue...

Jack
Only one's I've heard breaking were Titanium wires like mine... titanium can be brittle.. but very light

stock steel is not going to break ... even if they aren't the speacial purple BVM steel wires like on the electra

steel wire gear is steel wire gear I don't care who you get it from

later

I making the light weight trailing that will work well with the Electra. It even lighter than the stock BV wire.
How can make struts for the Electra... you know BV invented aluminum.

Don't feel bad Jack, I get the "XPS Fans Adapters and Systems" thread reported several times a week, and we PAY to be here (as does Tam and several others) on RCGroups.

Actually, transparent aluminum really exists. I thought it was a joke at first, but you can buy it. Aluminium oxynitride is a patented compound that becomes transparent under heat and can be polished like glass. Lighter in weight that glass, and strong enough the U.S. military is using it for armor, it even stops armor piercing rounds.

Main gear for SPARK

This is our main gear set for the "Spark" The strut is intergal to the retract, made from Stainless steel. The lower portion of the strut is a trailing link, when the plane sets on the ground. As soon as weight is removed from the strut. it strightens out to be inline. The remainder of the strut and the actuator block is machined from 7075 T6 aluminum, not 6061. 7075 is a much harder grade of aluminum. its whats used on the main spars on vertually all aircraft made in the US. The introductory price of a 3 gear set is $300 for the first 10 sets. The nose gear is simillar to the retract I make for an L-39.

Larry,

Can you give us both views for the gear in the extended position, instead of just the one view in the extended position like you show on the right side of the picture.

Also, I'm not sure how well that rubber band would hold up during repeated use, and doesn't it get in the way of retraction?

The rubber band is just displaying how the strut looks with weight of a plane on it.... the spring on the front of the strut is what makes it straighten out

that's what I make of it
