Question
Will charging batts kill my cars batt?

I was wondering how charging packs would affect my car if it wasn't running.

For example, is it bad to charge three 720mah packs overnight if I don't have my car running?

Thanks.

No problems!

Charging a bunch of 720mAh packs shouldn't be any problem.
You'll probably have to charge 75-100 of them to drain your car battery :-)

I would agree with Stefan. If your car battery is healthy and in a proper state of charge, you should have no problem .

I won't leave them unnatended, just wondering what would happen if you charged the batts without starting the car.

Thanks.

Where do you fly?
Would you care to be there with a dead car battery?
I use a utility battery to charge the electrics.

Where ever I fly I will be sure to park with a straight runway in front of me.

I'll hop in my car, push it to get it rolling, and then pop the clutch in 2nd gear. And vrooommm, my trusty ol Honda Prelude will start right up!

Don't you love manual over automatic transmissions. This is one reason why I like them better.

You dont' give a cell count but I would guess these are 7 or 8 cells packs. A car battery in good shape should give many charges. The problem comes with big packs of sub-c cells - a 30 cell pack of 3000 mAh will take around 15 times more energy to charge than one of these small packs. Charge a few of these big packs without running the engine and you could have a problem.

I always make sure I have my car engine running before the other guy(s) leave. Don't ask why I do this!

That's a good idea also. Keep the jumpers in the trunk.

About 2 years ago my van battery had to be replaced cause it did not start the vehicle anymore; my son and I used it with an antiquated timer charger till we got sick of it cause it wouldn't die after a few months. Hope this alleviates your concern.
