Can we vote with “Chicago” rules... like they used in the 20’s?

Vote more than once, have the recently and not so recently deceased vote?

I have a request actually. I fly electric. Why? Because the nearest glow field is 90 min away and I can fly electric just down the street. I do like the reliability of my electric stuff and not having to clean it up or worry about sealing the airframe from fuel.

But, I do love the sound of 4 strokes and diesels. After looking at some of our kits I have decided to look at recommending FS and diesels for these as well as electric power. The biggest problem with most is the size of the prop (which is one reason to not consider 2 stroke). WWI and radial engines make for large cowls and really need larger props for decent flying (and they look a lot better ).

So, I am going to build my next model, a 36" wingspan SE5A designed by Peter Rake, with two power units. One an electric and the other a .06 diesel. The power unit will be on a slide in tray that will hold battery, esc and motor, or, diesel, fuel and throttle servo.

For accuracy sake the last electric power system I did for a model this size cost $60 with the battery. The cheap Chinese brushless motors and competition in the LiPo world have really decreased the cost of electric. The diesel will cost more than the electric system.

Any suggestions or comments? Anyone else want to try one of Pete's models for a conversion?

I'm glad other people are getting into this! I've written posts detailing the weight savings and power gain going from an electric to glow. At this point, I don't see the purpose in justifying anything. You know why I do it? Because it's freaking awesome. Put that in your spreadsheets, haters!

I converted a GWS Zero to a Norvell .061 BigMig and it was just a DOLL. So much fun.

Well, I have a .06 diesel on the way for the little SE5A. Will be interesting to see how this works.

Too many of the applications I have like larger props which I can't drive with the appropriate two stroke glow. Even the four strokes are minimal. That's why I'm going diesel.

Electric vs IC. I like the convenience of electric, and the consistency of knowing that every time I move the throttle I get the same exact response. Yes, IC engines are far more reliable and consistent these days, just as electrics are lighter and more efficient and allow lighter airplane structures. If I could fly IC closer to home I'd probably still be using it for some applications.
