I'm curious. Has it flown yet? I'm guessing the CG is about at the LE of the wing at the root. Just wondering how much lead it takes to balance it in that short nose. ian |

Molded EPP foam. I just can say the price is reasonable and affordable at the moment. Please go discuss this project on hand launch forum: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1016310 Some maiden flight photo there! Ming Lou |

Sorry to have to drag this thread back to the matter at hand
but I thought I'd bring you an update on the progress of Phil's Fox to electric conversion (e-Fox?!?)(Clicky )The aircraft made its maiden flight today in good flying conditions but not so good video or photo conditions. The video is up: Video And here are a couple of static and in-flight shots, though sorry about the image quality, the light was failing fast. A big well done Phil... she looks and flies brilliantly! Can't wait to get mine converted! |

Fox down!
Hi all,
Im afraid I crashed my electric Fox today, for reasons I dont fully understand - annoying really as it was going real well from the flat field and Ive had some real good fun with it this last 3 weeks or so...I've started doing a bit more aggressive aeros with it and it was during a flick roll today when my problems began. Once the roll had begun I input UP ele and RIGHT rudder to compliment the Aileron. Full rudder is quite overpowering (approx 40mm movement) and the flick was great, but on exiting the roll and with all sticks now central it just carried on rolling and pitching!! My immediate thought was that I had thrown the battery out during the roll and that I was now a free flight foamie with the controls as they were set mid roll... certainly thats how it felt.... I was about 150 feet high. It was high enough for me to explain to my fellow flyers that I had a problem and no control on the model. As it rolled and fell to earth I tried to recover but the controls never felt like they were working, in the end it had rolled level but the up elevator caused it to balloon, stall and nose dive, breaking the front end. Once at the crash site it was clear the battery was still connected (although it had been thrown out of the fuselage in the impact) and ALL THE CONTROLS WERE WORKING! Now back at home, having spent an hour thinking about it (as you do!) Im non the wiser, my options as to what possibly happened here are; (i) Battery came forward in the cabin during the roll to make the model grossly nose heavy and render controls effectively 'numb'. (ii) Full rudder input caused some sort of 'deep stall' from which I never properly recovered. (iii) Intermittant radio failure. (it all works now back home still!) My question to those that have flown the Fox to death on here, have any of you experienced a really nasty stall/spin characteristic with big control movements on this machine??? Having flown the model now on numerous occasions I would be amazed if it has any vices like this, but Id like to know what others have found. Thanks for any advice on this - Thankfully the wings and tail are undamaged so I will live to fly another day - so Im off to whack some glue on my broken nose!!!! Phil |
