Time was ticking down to the time I had set aside. I was busier than I thought I'd be at work and I hadn't got my builds done. I wore out my old TL 50, it's retired. Talking to Chris one day, I decided to turn my 2 builds over to him. I was hoping he'd say.........OK.......It's 8am.......I'll have them ready to be picked up by 6pm. Instead, he's going to Kansas. Ok, I don't really have a trip planed anyway.

Maybe I'll just go visit and Aunt in San Diego and my parents in Irvine........Wait!! joekoz lives around there. He's got some great Ritewings I'd love to see and watch him fly!! Joe was very receptive and we get a great trip planed. Be fun to pack up my new CK built TL 50 and head for SoCal!!..........Unfortunately Joe had a medical problem and is scheduled for surgery. He's going to be fine, and we'll definitely take a rain check on that trip......Joe is a cool guy!! If I knew those shirts were so nice, I would have bought a couple ( pockets for the next batch )

So I got a week left before my time off and 1 Ritewing Back to the origional plan??? OK........I made a few calls.......left a few pm's and it sounded like a few guys were interested in getting together. Atom1025 said he actually had Sunday off and maybe late Saturday afternoon. He works with punkrockd and he had the same time OK........Better get that TL tuned up........spent hours on CG and trims and throws. Three days of tuning and this new TL is Awesome.........I'm invincable........Wrong..pilot error, broken spar, end of story, end of trip. Called Adam...........OK, trips off. I woke up in the middle of the night, and remembered: Adam likes to build and has 2 TL 50.......call Adam, deal stuck, trip on

The Klingon Wing!!

Sorry bout the ramblings guys........but I just drove 24 hrs for this trip and decided to do a play by play.........skip over my posts if I'm boring you

Load up the car with 7 non Ritewings, 3 lipo chargers, 2 nimh chargers, and tons of other stuff. Drive up there 800 miles in 24 hrs. I've never met most of these guys and most of them are not sure I'm even going to show. Decided to stay in Davis......why Davis??....I don't know!! It's 9:45pm, I have 3 guys to contact because I used up the batt on my cell phone on the way up........and I hope they have motels in Davis. Adam was selling me a shell TL 50 so I could actually have a Ritewing at the The Official Unofficial Ritewing Meet and Fly....I was bringing all my electronics except the servos. I've never met Adam and never seen the plane. I'm going to find a room unload, reload, charge, contact a bunch of people that don't really know me, put together a plane and be ready to fly with a pack of Rabid Ritewingers in about 11 hours. I've just spent as much time on the road as flying to New Zealand........Jet lag

And then?

I show up at the meeting field at the designated time. There's Adam and Dario............WOW somebody actually showed up!! Paul shows up soon, and as soon as I've installed my electronics in the well built Atom Kingon ship Twilkers arrives!! All Rite..........we've actually got something here!! We knew there was going to be a soaring contest at that field and had fun watching as we all arrived. We were going to meet Scott and Eric later in the afternoon and had a little time to fly somewhere before we went to the other field. I need to maiden the TL before the big meet!! We cruised through some industrial areas in Sac and found a place with a chunky dirt field and we could land on the street. Very few cars driving by....but quite a few street posts.......We all kinda thought, this doesn't look very good, but Dario whiped out a plane and started flying and we all followed suit. Got nervous maidening the TL.........my last flight was the end for the last plane I flew, not exactly a confidence builder for a hastily put together wing to be maidened in front of 4 other pros..............Flew pretty good......couple of clicks.....good to go for the day......... We all flew planes and got comfortable. More drabble later

i've got my big shtick eatin' grin again. i've decided ( thanks to you ) that i want another 50. the 60 is awesome, but not my cup of tea. the fifty is fast and down right bitchin'.

We were still in W.Sac, Terry has 2 pylon planes that are small and FAST. Tim and I were standing/talking watching Terry rip it up with one of his pylon planes. a small paved road is off the larger road, not much room to land because of a building down the road. he brings it in in circles slowing down and loosing altitude, finally comes in to land, the plane skids on the ground so far it goes past him and into a round bush RIGHT IN FRONT OF Tim and I. the bush actually saved his plane. it would have plowed into a big concrete filled metal post. quite exciting. scared me pretty good. it was coming directly at Tim and I.
just a small tid bit that i wanted to share.

Terry is a good pilot. he rips up the sky and it is a pleasure to watch him fly.

I still am amazed that you drove that far never meeting any of us previously and deciding to buy a plane sight unseen. The trip could have been a dud! Luckily Dario, Adam, Tim and Paul were the main ones you were hooking up with. Can't say enough good about these guys! The rest of my family was impressed with Dario running over to help my daughter when she fell out of her chair. Great guys!

Eric and I still laugh about you threading your TL50 WOT 4' off the ground out of a shallow dive between you and Eric's truck 15' away or so. Whatever the distance is we both start laughing out of disbelief after seeing it. You are crazy... but good! Goes for Adam as well.
