Thankee, thankee. Pilot is a Pete's Pilot. Notice the hole at the front of the cowl. Had a sanding drum blow off my dremel!

ohhh, nothing like a bird with it's spinner on

yeah pilot looks very nice, is that a gunshit he is looking at ?

just replace the rx battery with a light UBEC and you should be an oz closer to the lighter side of things

I should have one cut after christmass and see what weight I can manage with it.

I'm sure you meant a gunsight!

I might make new tail feathers over the winter too. In the end I think I can get it down to about 47 ounces.

Too funny. Thought that was a scottish term for ..it

Baldguy sorry for the late reply, the CG on my tempest is 65mm from the LE.

Looks great! Thanks for the pictures. Now get some Cannons on her for the... well you know, gunsights.

Hi Guys,

I've flown both planes extensively. The planform of the Tempest effectively emulates a wing that is straight across the front, and sweeps forward along the trailing edge. This means that the C/G seems awfully far forward at the root.

I put the C/G on my Typhoon at 27-30% chord at the root. This will vary a bit with airfoil, exact sweep planform, and washout. With the small tail on the Typhoon, you want to err a little on the front-heavy side.

Start at about 25%, and work your way back.

Typhoons are much more tolerant of being heavy than they are of being tail-heavy!

Thanks Ron, for the first flight it I was nose heavy, first thought it was tail heavy, but I think that was a thrust issue. I believe I've got the cg set at 2.25 inches. Right now I'm waiting on having my dad turn a solid aluminum spinner for me, that'll let me keep all the weight forward. I honestly don't think 50 ounces is too much for this size of bird, that's just over 3 pounds. Will make the dolly for ground launch within next couple of weeks, I hope. They sure seem to fly nice though!

Baldguy, you have done a great job and she looks the part. It has been interesting to follow the thread and I will refer back to it as I build one in the New Year. I wil follow the next few flights with interest.

Thank you very much. Little down on myself tonight. Went out for the SECOND flight on my Sig Rascal, and for some unknown reason she went into a spin at about 50 feet, spun down and whacked a power pole. Is repairable, after I build a whole new nose section and rejoin the wings and re-attack the tail feathers.

Discovered the cause of the crash. Rudder push rod became detached, rudder blew over to one side and in she went. Will probably rebuild her as they are fun little 3 channel birds.

Is this kit still available? I'm thinking of putting together a wood kit for old time's sake. A bit of nostalgia.
