Extreme Flight 88"Yak54/Jeti SpinOpto200/Plettenberg Terminator/FlightPowerEVO25/30C

A few days ago, I discovered the EF 88" YAK 54 on video from Extreme Flight RC (I like big props! )
I was completely amazed by the stability and the manoeuvrability of that plane, both 3D and IMAC. That's the perfect performer for Aeromusical
And that beauty looks scale with this huge fuselage.
At that time, I knew I will fly her
And what about an electric set-up...

Freestyle-RC from UK, the European distributor got one in stok, yeah!
Let's go for it!
Less than a week later, 3 big box where at home.
(Here, I would like to give a big thank you for the availability and proficiency of Chris Hinson from Extreme Flight RC and to Daniel from Freestyle-RC, UK. That was very fast service)

The Yak is really huge!!! perfectly build and light. ok, I made my mind, I go for Electric!

Here is my planned set-up:

Plettenberg Terminator
RASA 24/12 prop
Jeti Spin OPto 200
Flight Power Battery (Size?!, I don't know yet )
Power Box Gemini for the reception

Any suggestion is welcome as this Wonder is quite bigger than my F3A electric plane!

Keep tuned,
Benoit from Belgium

I've flown mine a bit on gas...fantastic airplane. I am going to install a Hacker on 12S, hopefully in time for the fall fly-ins. It's a tremendous airplane, I'm certain you will enjoy it.

That is a great picture. I thought about this plane recently with your exact setup. The size has me a little nervous. The Yak is absolutely huge. I look forward to your reports.

I was also a bit worried about the weight until I flew BoneDoc's 19lb. Dalton on 12S 5000TPX / Hacker A60-18L / Xoar PJN 24x10. That plane has plenty of pullout and pitch speed for my kind of flying.

If only someone would design a plane that size that was 15 lbs or lighter. That would be awesomer.

I wasn't worried that the plane was too heavy for it's size to fly well. I am just a little intimidated by how big it is. Cost of the gear and transporting it etc. So far 60" and 8 lbs is the largest plane I have flown.

About weight, I expect around 8.2kg/18 pounds with Flight Power EVO25 10SF3A5000 but I don't know if this will be enough battery , so 7kg dry

The full kit weight was at 4.7kg ALL HARD WEAR!!! included, which is really low for such a big bird.

Here are some pictures/ weight related

rudder ready 156gr
wings ready without servo: 646 and 651gr
fuselage : 1531gr
landing gear: 347gr
really huge canopy: 440gr

carbon Wing tube: 114gr
stabilizer ready: 148 and 150gr

Hehe... do you know how much power you will have i like it!!!

but why not go full out with a 12s setup? in terms of power EVO25 5000 will be more than enough for the setup, just a matter of flight time.

You can look at the hyperion thread to get some ideas on power. Comes out of the same arf factory, so does quique's,.. each brand just having some minor differences in colors, wingtips, and hardware,..hence the couple inches variance in span.

I have the same 12S/A60-18L setup in mine that bonedoc and blucor had in their larger extra. With the 24X12 APC "E" its 4 to 4.4 kilowatts depending on if the batteries were charged just before flying, or a few weeks beforehand <G>. PLENTY of poop for the plane. With a 21X14 it makes a really nice IMAC style combo, although it can get a little too fast, so you have to watch the left stick usage.

Hello Benoit! Thank you so much for taking the time to post your set-up of the 88 inch Yak. I look forward to your assembly and flight report.

Gary, just to clarify-yes this plane is built in the same factory as the Hyperion, but not the Quique planes. Also our current 88 inch Yak is COMPLETELY different than the Hyperion 85" Yak, not even close. I'm afraid you haven't seen one up close because an experienced modeler like yourself would see a huge difference in the 2 planes.

Gary - assuming an 18 lb weight (may be realistic assumption or not) 4000-4400 watts is well over 200 watts/lb. Do you feel planes this size need that level of power or is it just a matter of you can so why not?
