Scorpion Calculator (SC)
Hello
I open a new thread upon this freeware dedicated to Scorpion motors. You will find the downloadable file (zipped) and a word file explaining my philosophy compared to D-Calc and Peak eff. I am myself a great supporter of these two last programms. Of course SC is my baby. I know it better than I know D-Calc and Peakeff. All three have some similar aspects (efficiency versus current space). I started the first version on this core in 2002 (for Model Motors references). There are also similar freewares for other brands references. I have good relations with Georges and Lucien. They provided me with the motors, some kits and a lot of propellers. I have to say that Georges is willing always to provide good quality motors at a reasonable cost. I hope to continue to improve the accuracy of algorithms and the data with your comments and feedbacks. I am preparing a new form "Wizard/Plane" to find the right "motor+prop+voltage" for a given model plane. Updating SC

Scorpion Calc is up-dated (v2.24) News 1) Motor index (Motor constant Km^2 per g) It is an index of power-density for the motor 2) In the frame "Performances" New parameter Consumed Power per gram Normally 1.5 to 2 W/g At 1 W/g you are cool (low risk to fry your baby) At 3 W/g you could be at the limit, except for bursts runnings The associated doc file is also updated Louis |

Christian P. messaged me to correct some informations regarding D-Calc. I am glad to make the up-dating of the doc file (post #1) Please download the new edition of SC_DCalc_Peakeff.doc D-calc is a stand alone freeware (not EXCEL) D-Calc is also able to work with motor parameters no load (Io, rpmo, Rm) Thanks Christian for your feedback Please, you are welcome to send me the digest about D-Calc, to be incorporated on my comparison. I want to take a moment to publicly thank Louis for his outstanding work on developing this program for us. It really works well, and on most props, comes within 1-2% of the values that I have on my test stand. What more could you possibly want in a motor simulation program!

The new Scorpion 4020 and 4025 motors will be arriving here in about 5 days. There will be a very limited run in the first shipment, and I will be taking most of these to the Chicago show with me. If anyone wants to Pre-order one, send me a PM and I will set it aside for you. The next shipment will be coming at the end of October, so there will be plenty to go around in about 3 weeks. Lucien |

Could you make an "Americanized" version of the Scorpion Calc program available for those of us on this side of the pond? When it fires up, it defaults to all metric units, which requires me to go into the Preferences menu and click on all the English unit options before I can go further. Another nice option would be a global English-Metric button that would allow you to toggle everything but the prop size to English units with one click. I am not sure how much code change this would take, since I use Scorpion Calc about 8-10 times a day, every day, it would save me a lot of menu clicking. Thanks! Lucien |
