That just looks like a 5 cell pack instead of the 10 cell pack. Will make a lot of drill users happy to get rid of some weight and price. I'll stick with the 10 cell pack for $100 at E bay.
What I really would like to see now is a 1200 mah nano battery from DeWalt. I could use those in small planes. There are rumors but I don't think that is going to happen. Love those 123's. I hope the competition brings out something 2x as good at half the price. Now that would really be great. Dream on. |

The 18 volt market is probably a lot bigger than the 36 volt one.
This could mean that production will be ramped up, economies of scale could kick in and prices at the retail level could get close to Ebay. They might also be on sale from time to time for even less. A nice dream at least ![]() Pat MacKenzie |

This is great. The 36V tools are priced a little out of line unless you are buying on ebay I think they were missing the boat on the mass market and are adjusting. Either that or they finally got production capacity up to where they can support the larger market. Hopefully with these out there they will start getting purchased and produced in serious quantity.
I agree it would be nice to see a smaller capacity cell. But I'll take what I can get. Mike |

In the UK 36v tools seem to be quite rare. If this is simply a 5-cell pack of the same cells that's in the 10-cell pack it'll be a good thing. There seem to be quite a few 18v tools around -- with non-Li packs -- so if Li replacements take off then that'll hopefully mean more availability and better prices.
mjws, why don't you try Saphions? 0.1v less than A123s, 1200mAh capacity, same length but smaller diameter than A123s, and can be charged on a normal LiPo setting. I was using 3S2P Saphion in my Twinstar before I got a couple of 3S1P A123s, and to all intents and purposes they're a direct substitute (i.e. 2P Saphion for 1P A123)
