Omus, Sumo …180 …
I hesitate a new thread but
feel like I’ve done enough disobedience and damage to
Your beautiful Sumo plans and outstanding thread
For that I am very sorry.
Even in my feeble thumbs
you gift has the endowment to fly backward…
Thanks firetrappe for the inspiration :>)
These are post maiden shots…

No video, would have been a hQQt
My first RC with thrust amidships
Plus no elevator or rudder
First cut schematic
Figure AMPs not a problem but a.c. signals are nasty lQQking
Don’t know if small/lite solid-state relay can handle this much trash???

Gramps, thanks for the comps. No need to apologise though, i'm all for experimentation and innovation....if it flys it counts
It's nice to see the added elevator, and I hope you manage to make the esc reversible. I know the car guys are using brushless esc's which have forward and reverse although they are expensive, so it's definately do-able.
Keep us updated!

She flies great with no elevator AND
that much fin (rudder include as fin for that experiment)
loops were just ok IF balanced on spar (behind prop slot)
With elevator loops are so tight and crisp
she would probably toss her cookies on a diving inside loop
Have not given up on VPP (quite the contrary)
when my ‘ah-HA’ said “hummmmm???”
maybe a bonus here, yet an additional dimension
stretch 4D into 4Dd or >5D< ?
experimenting with best props and motor AMPs for reverse thrust…

Aww, there was me thinking you were 'old skool' and you're using DVM's and a calculator!
Seriously though, it'll be interesting to see which prop is the most efficient running backwards. I bet no-ones tested that before (well not on purpose anyway).
5D! I think 4D's really tough, 5D sounds like it could be totally confusing, but I like your thinking

Well… true…. 4-5D is wishful thinking on my part to the point of exaggeration but with reveres thrust maybe I can VL on her nose or hover nose down under the limbo.
Version-1…28 ˝ inch wing
blue one skin foam, less than one hot glue mini stick, carbon spar
and no elevator surface = 2.7oz
24 gram 1500 kV motor on modified GWS EP-0947 (orange) prop
two S55 servos aileron/Vtail mix
15 A speed controller (heavy but next available in the food chain)
all-up she came in under 7 oz
…V1a is 26 inch, with elevator but no rudder servo
…V1b rudder servo and 3C460 mAh really brings her to life
… V2 on cutting board, will be 24 inch with longer nose moment to better balance/suit my style of servo installation less than one paper clip length from control horn.
She literally stopped traffic today.
Big gust in the face of a thunderstorm pushed it into street behind me.

One more experiment on V1 before finalizing version 2
Moved horizontal stab/elevator out of over-size aileron’s wake
Crisp (almost snap like) U-Turns can now be completed with no rudder input
At low speed, low alpha, less inclination to drop nose and dive with no warning

“”You can notice this in the video when I was flying low and >>> it just dropped<<<. It still flys very slow just not as slow as the tailed version.”” power / Sumo Nigna
Omus, with AND with out elevator AND with horizontal stab push up away from aileron wash… has same trend (but not often) and from no perceptible input on my part, the nose will drop
Wing seems to quit flying at some critical AOA normal
Notice too, no apparent tip stall, just flat nose droppers. I use ch6 and experiment with flaps. With flaps neutral try to balance such that she flies level (inverted or not) at her sweet point (my favorite throttle setting).
This is my first amidships thruster and wonder how placement with respec to CG play into all this?

Figured it out
Omus does not do that nose drop trick any more :>)
A trip to the fly field but only after
A trip down memory lane into the Skunk Works
What does it take to get the SR71 up high on rocket power?
THEN what does it take to glide her back RC style ?
