Best way to test radio distance?

Whats the best way to test the range of your radio and receiver? Is there any way other then trial and crash?

I wanted to try some different ways to run the antenna

Depends what equipment your using.

With my transmitter the model goes out of sight before it even thinks of loosing range so no need to worry.

Try testing range with the transmitter ariel down (this will reduce distance) and the model on the floor (no motor connected for safety) then try your configurations of antenna for furthest range.

Thanks, i remembered there is a radios section and they posted me to some links.

Yeah put the antenna down the walk back away from it till you start to lose signal. They said somthig like 8X that distannce is the distance you can go.

Ill have to try it.

It helps if you have a colleague holding the heli (motors disconnected!) so that you can communicate when you're moving the sticks or not.

Tach.
