I've seen a cam design that people have used. A air cylinder moves a mechanism that pulls the gear straight up on a guide. I'll see if I can find the photos that I had for it. Another way would be to just skip the mechanism, and just use air cylinders straight up to pull and push the gear down and up.

On Skip Mast's C-130 design, he calls for a standard mechanical retract to actuate the main L.G. The landing gear is mounted to a plate that can slide up and down. The retract is used to move the plate up and down. A slot in the plate translated the rotation of the retract into vertical displacement. Make any sense?

Let me know if you would like a picture.

I wish that C-130 was mine... Its actually from Richard at wannafly.com. He sold his plane though. He took a lot of reference photos for me, because I'm building the smaller of the 3 plans available from Palmer Plans. Mine will not use retracts though. Trying to convert it to electric, if all goes well, I'll build another and possibly add retracts in it.

I have a huge library of C-130 photos if anyone needs them.

I'll have to see if I can find the drawings. The C-130 was one of those projects that never got off the ground for me.
