Would just 2 EDF's work, and the other 2 are dummies? It would save weight, and probably be powerful enough. 4 is overkill.

Has anone tried out these yet? 32mm df, complete with feigao inrunner and inlet ring, 130g thrust claimed on 3s and only 28.50.

Here's a link to the site http://www.kpaero.com/ProductReport....gory1=electric, and here's their data sheet;

DF 32

Bore diameter 32 mm
Outside diameter 33.5 mm
Length 47.5 mm
Length with intake 71.2 mm
Weight with 7.35 KV Feigao motor 26.5gms.

LiPoly Battery Thrust gms. Volts Amps
2 x 250 mAh .....64 ...........6.46 .....3.7
2 x 350 mAh .....68 ...........6.73 .....4.1
3 x 400 mAh .....130 ..........9.91 .....7.8

2 cells @ 6.53 volts 47740 rpm
3 cells @ 9.22 volts 63820 rpm

For the price it seems to be pretty good. They also sell the df unit on its own for 9.50.

I don't have much experience with EDF's, but it seems that their thrust to weight ratio of the edf unit itself is quite low… Or am I just making incorrect assumptions? 4 example an APO5 micro brushless motor weights 5g, and puts out 110g of thrust, but this edf, weighs 30g, and gives 85g max.

Diameter, or lack thereof.

But that means they can spin and move air very quickly for a given power input allowing high flight speeds.

They can also be mounted inside a fuselage for scale effect.

Props will almost always do the job better at model scales, but EDFs offer a certain "cool factor".

I see. So you are giving up efficiency for looks. I would go the same way, but I like 3D.

Actually, you are giving up raw thrust for higher efflux speed. It is like starting your car out in high gear - it doesn't produce the torque but eventually goes faster than leaving it in low.

I like F9F, very cool. How did you cut them? YOU FLY FUTABA? Tee Hee! Just kidding, but an AR6400 would look nice in there.

The A10 is hot wire cut in Epp wing has lots of undercamber, I treated myself to a CNC router last year I now use this most of the time for depron normally use a 1mm dia cutter at 25000 rpm. The F9f is actually scaled down from an earlier 55mm fan design.
I race pylon and Futaba has never let me down !!!

You need to make templates from something like PCB board or glass board(if you are looking to reproduce) or simply draw out the parts on material. Then using a hot wire cutter
either follow the template or your drawn parts.
See [URL="http://www.diytools.co.uk/diy/Main/sp-53-7077-37688-proxxon-27080-hot-wire-cutter-thermocut.asp"
As for wings templates need to be made for the root and tip sections again wire cut using a hand held wire cutting bow, look up foam wing cutting on Youtube there is lots of info.
Cheers
