Silicone Seal in Wing Saddle Area

Spread a thin bead of silicone (window / bath silicone in a tube) along the wing saddle area of fuselage. Lay Saran or Glad wrap on top of silicone bead. Put wing on wing saddle area and tighten down screw. Let dry for 24 hours. Unscrew wing and remove clear wrap. You should have a watertight seal between wing and fuselage.

Glad I could help. I just picked up a couple of used, bicycle inner tubes from my local bike shop. As an alternative approach to silicone bead method, I plan on cutting thin strips of rubber inner tubing and gluing them down on the wing saddle area. I'm building a model of the Short Sealand and want to try a different method. It seems to me that rubber sheeting would be the ultimate in keeping water out of a seaplane. I may be wrong. We'll see. what about useing the same weatherstripping that goes around the canopy on the .60?

Not sure what the .60 Seawind uses, but my guess is the foam wing saddle tape where one side has adhesive. I also compresses after wing bolts are tightened down. I've tried that tape and it's great, except if you accidentally turn the plane upside down in the water. In other words, if the wind saddle area is submerged the foam tape is not waterproof. Granted, that's an extreme situation, but it does happen. It's hard to plan for all contingencies.

Thanks to EricJ320's PM advice, I can now select Flaperons or Spoilerons while inflight. AWESOME, can't wait to videotape the maiden flight, July 3rd.

Hello,

2 Quick questions.

#1. Will using an 8x6 prop make this plane a little faster versus using a 9x6 prop?
#2. By using an 8x6, even though its less thrust then the 9x6, will it be easier on the motor...meaning less chance of it heating up and burning out?

2 Quick Responses

1. If the 8x6 and the 9x6 are turning at the same rpm, they will have the same airspeed. If your motor can turn the 8x6 at a higher RPM, then it may be faster. Depends on a lot of things like airframe drag and the area of the cross section of the fuselage behind the prop.

2. Depends on the kV of the motor. Use a wattmeter and measure the current draw with each prop.
