It's actually kind of pathetic. I guess Putin wants to prop up the moral of the Russian people and fool them into thinking they are still a superpower.

It's only a matter of time before something drastic happens to one of the planes (ala Kursk) At least they are flying mostly over deep water.

Given the belligerence of US foreign policy lately, while such moves are purely symbolic they will play well with the locals. The average citizen of the average non-US country these days thinks Americans are arrogant imperialists, and pretending to stand up to the bully is a can't-loose tactic for any pol.

The really funny thing is our current fighter tech means we can shadow the bear and he won't even know he is being shadowed.

What a joke Putin.

The Russian Bear is a classic long distance platform.
And like all technology, if not exercised, will fall into disrepair.
Hopefully, their backfire bombers are corroded aluminum junk.

Utter nonsense. The real funny thing is how easily american taxpayers get conned out of their money to pay for yet another can of "snake oil" from various "Haliburtons" and the likes. And then happily keep themselves convinced that the new multibillon dollar gizmo works by reading comic books printed by the very same crooks.

Huh? First, no planes will of course fly over "US territory". I don't know where you got this strange idea. (Maybe you are thingink about the wrong Georgia?)

Secondly, what is this nonsense about "staring the cold war"? US has never stopped performing these flights itself.

Russian Tu-22M's are, of course, operational, although I have no idea why you'd mention them here, since it's not really a strategic bomber. Tu-160 is.

Complete BS. Perhaps what you'd like for the average non-US citizen to be thinking about average US citizens... but that's a different matter far removed from reality, now isn't it?

Isn't guam a US territory....? Oh it is...

From wikipedia

Guam (Chamorro: Guhan), officially the Territory of Guam, is an island in the Western Pacific Ocean and is an organized unincorporated territory of the United States.

From the article
"Russian bomber flew over a U.S. naval base on the Pacific island of Guam on"

""Yesterday we revived this tradition, and two of our young crews paid a visit to the area of the (U.S. Pacific Naval Activities) base of Guam," he said."

But Russia had stopped the flights for many years.

The US has taken many strategic elements off of alert status.
Both rocket and bomber based.

Now the russians start their flights again.....

Maybe if his choice of words were different you could agree.ie:
"A significant amount of citizens of the average non-US countries these days thinks Americans are arrogant imperialists"
Surely in this day and age of electronic cross culture interactions you can't deny a certain distaste for American politics amongst the "non US " people on the BB's you frequent.I believe here on RCG the "non US" people are generally too polite (or in fear of censure ) to really say outright what they and their neighbors think of some of our policies but in other forums I've frequented in the past that were pretty much free for alls they are not so kind and numerous enough to cause notice
