Not bad! Seems easily fixed!

As for the cause? Was it windy? The bank could of caught the wind and whipped it over.

Could of been a glitch.

Servos still good?

Sorry bout the crash, it happens, just sucks when it happens to one of your Favorites.

Yeah it was windy, maybe a strong gust caught it, although it seemed like an rx glitch... I dunno.

Yes it is easily reparable, it's all cosmetic except the back of the battery box, which will just take a small amount of glue to fix. and the servos are all fine.

It is definitely one tough bird, I was sure it was demolished, the thump it made when it hit the ground was sickening. I spent 20 min checking it out all over for damage and mushy spots, and there were none! I really could have threw it back into the air and flew it.
One of my packs were slightly deformed, but I straightened it out, and it seems fine.
What a day, I was sure I was going to post here that my wing was destroyed.
Talk about luck hey?

I'll have to pick up an Electron 6 I guess.
I really don't want this to happen again, I won't be so lucky next time I bet.

Methos,
I ordered myself a 36" Sportster and was curious if you could pass along your final setup . I have read and heard from Adam that you have tried quite a few different props. What are you most happy with?

My thought is that I would use the Microdan motor as well since you seem to have been really happy with it. What prop and batts would you recomend?

Also, what is the cleanest / lightest / easiest method for mounting thise motors? It appears as though you have a custom mount.

Thanks,
Scott

P.S. I'm jumping the gun a bit as I probably won't start building until the new year...

Well I don't really have a "final setup" yet but I can tell you what I'm using right now;

MicroDan 2505 Speed motor

APC 4.75 x 4.75 prop

2 x 2100mAh 7.4v 18C lipo's in series (and about 5.5 - 5.75 oz of lead)

E-Flite 60-Amp Pro Switch-Mode BEC Brushless ESC (60 amp to make room for more power) This ESC has a built in Switching BEC capable of handling up to 6s !

Hitec Electron 6 RX

This power system pulls 38 amps static, about 500 watts and has a pitch speed of about 150mph. It pushes the Sportster well beyond 120mph.
The limiting factor in this system is the weak packs, I'm pushing them to the max at 38 amps, but I know the motor can take more power.

BUT... I'm about to upgrade
I have 2 x Poly RC 2500mAh 7.4v 25c lipos ordered from CK that I'm going to implant into the Sportster and change the prop to an APC 5x5.

This setup should pull over 45 amps(closer to 48amps), and over 650 watts with an estimated pitch speed of about 165 mph and over 50oz of thrust It won't have long flight times, but It's going to be scary fast for a thin little 36" Sportster. I can't wait!!

Yes I have a custom motor mount, and the only thing I can suggest, it to keep an eye on this thread, interesting things are happening: MicroDan 8mm adapter for 28mm Ritewing Mount

Hope that helps.
