Hi, great thread.

I just build mine from the 6mmfly kit, went together pretty nicely (although their laser machine seems to cut at an angle instead of perpendicular, which makes for some interesting alignment joining problems such as the fuselage to the wings. Other kits I've gotten from them have the same flaw, it's a bit annoying to have to trim carefully to get things to fit.

Anyway, I'm a bit off subject.

I've got the Grayson package with the 30A esc and 2216 motor. I have the same setup in my Quick Build F-15 and it flies really great.

In the F-22, my servos have pretty short wires, about 4-5" only, which means, if I want to mount the ESC on the centerline of the fuse, which I do, then the receiver is right next to the ESC. I don't know how to get around this other then with servo extensions which I'd rather not use.

Can anybody tell me if mounting the ESC next to the receiver will cause problems? Or should I just do a range check and see for myself?

Why? There is a lot of room inside that model - just put the ESC to one side or the other. The ESC won't throw the balance off on this model if that's your concern. As far as interference, I don't really know, but I think a little space between the two is prudent.

Thanks Ben, yeah, I was concerned about balance a bit. I ended up using servo extensions and putting the receiver up on the hatch lid so there's some separation. Made it easier to tape the wires down and minimize clutter in the airflow too.

We'll see how the maiden goes.

That setup should work for a 80% sized plane. It's too much weight for a 60% size. I've got a 50% size and the AUW is only 4.2 oz. and it's still a little porky. It's been posted a ton of times, but here's how to make the plans smaller.
File--->Print--->Preferences--->Page Layout--->Reduce/Enlarge Document

I have had excellent performance from the bphobbies BP A2212-6 w/ a 6x4 apc. I have oversized the elevators by 1/2 in and removed the tvector tabs, this makes for a much better hinge,also 3 in to the wingspan and ailerons are a must for nice control at lower speeds. On my 4th build and its the most fun bird i own!

See my post (692) above - mine is a 50% version. The little Feigao flies it along pretty good. It will climb straight up, but no unlimited vertical. Also, see my maiden report in post 705.

I've since put it on my computer radio with expo dialed in and I'm a little more comfortable with it, but I cannot recommend this size. It is way too quick and twitchy. Another problem with this size is you are really limited in prop size - 3 inches is about it.

OK, Raptor #2 is all painted up and ready to go. I'll maiden it tomorrow, then add the decals and finishing touches on the paint.

Looks great Pat. I am almost finished with my 2nd Raptor as well but I am not going to keep it. I built it for a boy in our church who saw my first one and had that "fighter pilot" twinkle in his eye. I thought this would be a great way to encourge him to get into aviation. I will post a picture tonight of the finished product.
