F-15 Nano Park EDF Video added post 96

Here are a few pics of one of the first projects to come out of my new ULS XL12000 laser.

WS 17.25"
Length 26.125"
Airframe 46gr
AUW 167gr 5.86oz
AET
Twin GWS 40EDFh
3s 400mah 20c lipo

This is an Alpha build to check parts fit and flying characteristics. Maiden was yesterday with two more flights since. Flies very parklike at about 35mph and will handle some 5-10mph wind. Easy hand launch and very gentle on landing. I did the test flights at a regular club field but she could easily be flown in a football field. A few minor adjustments have been made to the cut files and the Beta build will have a full graphics package applied.

John, that's awesome! I tried a 75% F-15 with twin EDF-50 and it flew like horse pooky. Great job on the build. I can't believe the whole thing was only 5.8 oz! Amazing.

The next one will look a whole lot better at the cost of a bit of a weight gain. A while back I did an EDF build on Jetsets F-15. This one however started as a 3 view of the full scale bird. Mostly 3mm depron with a few bits of 6mm. I did borrow some of Steve's engineering.

Are your EDFs stock brushed or brushless?

Jeff,

I am doing all my testing with stock brushed motors as supplied by GWS. I am using the high voltage version as designated by the GWS 40EDFh so they will live on the 3s pack. I am looking at production of several of these small EDF's and want them to fly on the cheap. One of these fans can be had with motor for $13-14 and two of them will run off a single 7-10 amp ESC. There is no doubt that a brushless setup will enhance performance. It will also increase the wing loading and take it out of the normal parkflier performance levels.

Nice Eagle John!

Interesting thing about going brushless in an EDF-40 is that you can get more than double the thrust of a single brushed fan with much higher efflux velocity. So depending on you battery choice you can actually end up with a lighter single fan model with better performance than one with with two brushed fans. Good stuff.

Thanks Matt,

If I was to go brushless, I would still leave her a twin . It would take some serious re-engineering to get her to balance with a single fan and the center spine would need a redo as well as the elevator linkage.

where abouts in Mich are you? I grew up in South Haven and worked at Riders Hobby Shop in Kazoo for a few years. Been out of the snow belt for many moons at this point

I would be interested in a kit. I have some brushless EDF40s looking for a home.

What's the matter, you don't like 9 month winters? Hope you're happy down there in Florida with your "sunshine".

I'm in Ypsilanti, not far from the Riders in Ann Arbor actually.

That thing would be a beast with twin brushless fans, but you'd have to stuff a 1320 pack in there somewhere to support the amp draw - more balance problems. I designed a MiG-25 for twin fans but ended up flying it as a single because the extra performance would have been pretty small for the price.

Would be fun to try sometime though...
