I just can't throw out my old TM

What do you do with a well used GWS Tiger Moth that is at the end of it's life? It has Pro Bond scabs and mange everywhere. Over weight, broken struts, dog drool and shredded cowl. But it has been so loyal. I can not bring my self to simply toss it in the weekly garbage. I am thinking about removing the electronics and filling it full of alkalines and just let it fly away.

Give it away.

You can do what I do. I fly indoors at a golf dome in the winter, and this weekend, I'm taking my old Frog minus electronics, and marking it "Free to a good home." I'm sure some beginner will have it in the air again at least one more time. Makes me feel better about saying goodbye to it.

How Depressing

CR:

Why not bronze it and mount it on a marble base?

Why not send it to the desert to hang with all the other old mothballed birds?

give it a proper burial.....

put a speed 400 on it....climb it as high ya can......
then nose it over full throttle auger into the dirt

place marker over wreckage as a shrine for all other moth flyers to come kneel and pray in front of.

either that or put a eps300-c-c on it and fly it some more...till its too heavy for the 370....then do the above....

Chuck

p.s. if you live near the coast, a burial at sea would be kinda nice too
but actually i kinda like the idea of ..."give it to a newbie"

Hi Charley, here's what I did with mine. Put it back together but mounted a EPS300C-C and used 8 cell 720 or 800mah packs. TM with EPS-300

Flies great, but is not really a tigermoth anymore. Lots of fun though and it's not bothered by wind until it gets over 10mph. Another benefit is, who cares if it crashes. Oops

Rebuilt it again and it's still flying. Though I missed the stock 'moth so much that I built a new one, only did the necessary mods and tried to keep it light. Moth #2

The free to a good home idea is a good one too.

I'd like to give it to a good home, but I don't go to flying places where I could give it away. I should sacrifice a set of Qualcomms and a beat up DXA and just set her free. It may be the best thing to do.

Nose it into the dirt would be a great idea. Don't forget to video tape it.

KEEP IT!!!!!! have it as a back up plane or use it to experiment or use the parts to create your own airplane. Belive me there so much you can do with a " old " TM.

Don't forget that nosing it in will probably destroy all the radio gear too. Not worth it.

Charley, keep it. Find a corner in your shop and hang it from the ceiling with some fishing line or something. It will act as a trophy in your shop. I'll lower my antenna in its honor.

And I'll stay away from what is suddenly just another free-flight plane without a map or pilot...

I feel the same way about my tigermoth. It has been crashed and repaired so many times that some repairs are on top of repairs. It is on its third or fourth motor and has tape and elmers all over it. However, it still flies fine! Thats right, it still flies fine. I fly it more than any other plane I have. Hard day at work? No problem, just step outside and chunk the tigermoth up in the air. Make a few loops around the mailbox, zigzag thru the trees, float around a while and land. Stress gone
