I put my wings together per instructions, then added a strip of clear carton tape over each joint as insurance. That makes it where I can still remove the wing panels for easier maintenance.

Hi guys,

Anyone here tried using the Turnigy 50-55B 600kV with a 6s lipo and an APC 14x7E prop? I have this combo available for my Cessna but am a bit worried about the amp draw. Is a 6s to much for motor?

Prop Question

Hey guys I am going to use either an O.S 46AX or Evolution .52 engine in my CMPRO Skylane 182. What is a good prop size to use? I have an 11X7, would this work?

So long as you prop it for a pitch speed in the region of 120 MPH. What size that would be on a glow motor I have no idea... typical electric props are 14x8 or 13x10, but that doesn't really say very much.

Great thread this, I also am building a cmpro 182 50 have fitted nav lights which are being run off the 1800mah receiver battery this is mounted under the dashboard in a custom balsa box (to keep the weight forward) have used a Rhino 4900 6cell 22.5v lipo,
(also mounted in the floor up front in its own balsa coffin!) with a BRC wasp 400kv 1200w motor and 70amp opto esc, have done a quick bench test and it draws 54amps being restrained by hand! oh and its fitted with a 14x9 K series master airscrew prop, it feels very strong and weighs in at 9lb, just needs a bit of trimming and c of g setting then its panic stations! (I am going to get a mate to maiden it who knows how to fly a lot better than I!) I have also printed a set of cockpit avionics to stick inside (as I operate a digital print machine!) will try to get some pics up soon...

Gentlemen,

I went to the Electifly web site and it gave me the following info. This is based on 9lbs,15 inch max prop, and 6S. The chart is making my novice brain itch. I have always used the motor called for by the manufacturer (this would be my first conversion). I will be flying with floats, so I am tempted to go with the bigger motor, but the chart looks like I will get better performance using the smaller 42 sized motor. How does run time figure into all this? It looks like the bigger motor will give more duration based on a specific speed.

I am able to find the AXI motor, but man it's pricey.

I ahve mine with a chinese equivalant to a Power 46 by E-flite. You might want to find a motor that has a bit more power, but then you have to watch the prop size due to floats. I have mine on floats and it flies fine. Only one flight off the water so far. Waiting on the weather to cooperate. Lately it's either been way to windy or raining.

I'm also building the CMPro .50 C182. Mine is getting a glow engine, but I thought I'd share my mod for getting the wheel fairing over the Robart strut.



The supplies I used are: 3/4", #4 screws (2); #4 flat washers (4); #4 nuts (2); 3/8" I.D. rubber grommet (1); 1/16" plywood (not shown).


Use a rotary tool to grind away the area shown, down to about 1/16" thick.


Round and enlarge the hole to about 5/8" diameter. Cut 2 slots at the rear of the hole as shown, just large enough to allow the two brackets on the strut to pass through.


Cut the rubber grommet as shown.


Drill holes for axle screws, and reinforce with 1/16" plywood. Location for holes has no specific mesurements, but are made on wheel center and where they will make the fairing level to the fuselage -- a little trial and error.


Insert strut, then press in the grommet through the top of the hole around the strut. The slot in the grommet should seat nicely in the area ground away on the inside of the fairing.


Install the wheel and Robart axle, then install the #4 screws, washers and nuts as shown.


A little touch-up paint on the slots for the brackets, and they'll be barely noticeable.

Well I ordered mine from Nitroplanes on Wednesday and got them Thursday. That is 6/3 and got them 6/4.

I have the right panel done as well as the center section. I am going to heed the advice on here about taping the wing joints together to make sure it stay in one piece.

I am going to order the light kit. It looks so cool coming in with the lights on.

I'll be using that one with 5S and a 14/7 or 14/8 prop. Maiden is imminent so I'll let you know! The only thing that worries me is that the weight is way over recommended 3100g, in fact mine is 4300g (9 lb 9 oz) However, even without Lipo/Motor/Esc it would be over 3kg?!
I also have the full FAA lighting installed using the works from Dimensionengineering!
