I'm also doing an e conversion on this plane. I using the turnigy 50-65D 270kv motor wich I think is a lil bigger than needed but I like more power than needed I think a 5S1P 3000-4000mah would be okay on this setup rite? Im looking to be in the ballpark of 1300W. Im waiting on parts at the moment but ill get some pics up as soon as I get it all together!!

1300W is plenty. Not insanely overpowered, but definitely plenty of power.

On this lipo setup with the stated above turnigy 50-65 270kv outrunner does anyone have a guess as to were i should start with a prop selection?? Im thinking maybe 15x8????? I'm really not sure. Ill be runing a 80 amp ESC. Any input would help! Thanks

Hi
How did you all who use the Robart 654 fasten the wheel pant to the strut? Can't figure out a clever solution for it.

I used epoxy. After getting the pant drilled out and slots filed in it for the stand offs on the disassembled strut to pass through, I used a small amount of epoxy and "tacked it" in position. I then used more epoxy (small amounts at a time) and filled it in, inside and out until it was solid. A little red and white paint to touch up over the epoxy and there you go.
No it's never coming off, and if I crash it's a goner, but... it's not supposed to crash right?

I tried to think of a way that wouldn't be so permanent, but nothing I came up with would have been very secure. Epoxy worked for me.

Jeff,
I think your kv is too low for this application with 6 cells and you will need a monster prop to get it to draw the wattage you probably want. I have a 50-65 400kv Turnigy on 6 cells that I run a 16x8 APC -E prop. I also run a 50-65 270kv on 8 cells with a APC-E 18x10 and helped a newbie to test the power draw of his 580kv version on 6 cells this morning!

To get your 270kv motor to draw say 1000 or so watts I reckon the prop diameter will need to be 20 or 21 inches! I suspect the undercarriage on the Cessna isn't long enough!

Could I suggest you work out what diameter prop you can safely run first, then the motor kv selection should be relatively straight forward. On 6 cells, a 580kv Turnigy 50-65 will be limited to either a 12 or 13 inch prop within the peak current limit, 400kv will be 15 or 16 inches and the 270kv version, as I said, much larger again.

I would also suggest that the wing area isn't that big on this model and that if you intend to use a 6 cell pack maybe a 4000mAH (or even smaller!) may be more appropriate for this model.

Hope this helps!

Cheers
Peter

Your welcome Chris.
Not sure these pics are worth a 1000 words but I thought you might want a closer look at how mine turned out. I was going to take these last night but it was late.

Regards,
Jeff

Now that is sweet Jeff! Thank you very much!
So when it's glued the wheel pant can't rotate?
Regards, Chris

No it won't rotate. It feels quite a bit more solid than the main gear wheel pants.

I reached up inside the wheel pant with a tooth pick on needle nose pliers and applied the epoxy so it could adhere to the rough inner surface of the pant. There is enough on the shaft to keep it from moving.

Tracon, I recently bought this airplane and was wondering why you decided to epoxy the two wing halves together? I am thinking of doing this cause th blue retainers that stick out of the center piece always come loose after a week or so. Plz help?!?!

I used epoxy and they've never failed me...

Knock on wood...

I would never trust the stock setup or set screws...

Good luck...
