>> degrades the battery's cycle life.
maybe somewhat OT here... Anyway, might be useful:
In my experience, what kills batteries is overcurrent, caused by overloading the motor (or a junk motor). For example, on a helicopter it happens when I choose a too large pinion. But, you get insane power, as long as it lasts.

The problem with electric motors - in particular cheap brushless motors - is that they draw more current when load increases. Now that's obvious.
What's not obvious: When overloaded, current increases much more than you'd expect.
In other words:
* Under normal operation conditions, current follows torque.
* When overloaded, current skyrockets.
And that's the main LiPo killer.

I wish I had chargers that can manage 5C on 2x6s 5000 mAh... Unfortunately, it brings the car generator to its knees...

Fire at Toxco

The main lithium ion and alkaline recycler in N. America experienced a Li fire this weekend. According to the company the fire started in lithium batteries in storage. They have a substantial safety program including storing them in concrete bunkers covered in sand. Larger batteries are discharged and/or frozen.

So, it can happen to any one. Be careful and safe,
