Any Ideas for which Brushless motor to run in my Vasa 65 and K&A F86??

Hi Guy's well I ordered my K&A Models F86 and Vasa 65 fan today. And I am trying to decide on which brushless motor to run in the plane? I want to use my 8 and 10 cell 1100 Hecell NIHM cell packs. So I need to keep the amp draw below 20 amps. Astro is currently (no pun intended) expirementing with a new 4 turn 020 that you can buy with or without a 25 amp ESC. I think its a sensorless motor, so I could use one of my 40 amp Kontroniks ESC's on it. But does anyone have any ideas of what other brushless motors I could run in the Vasa? I am looking for more power than a speed 400. Allot more actually and an effecient motor as well. If any of you guys have any suggestions I would appreciate them. I would like my F86 to perform like a fighter. You can see the plane here http://kamodels.com/
Thanks For any ideas or suggestions.
Joe

Joe, I'd suggest a Kontronic Fun 400-28. In the Vasa 65 on 12xCP1300 cells it pulls about 20 amps at the start at 30 sec it's something like 17-18 amps. That's the setup I though of when first reading about the K&A Sabre the other day. On 12 1100 NiMH the amp draw may be a bit below that.

I run a Mega16/15/3 in my wattage sabre using the HECELL/wattage 10cell 1100nimh. It pulls about 17amps with a cutdown Ky rotor. It pulls less with the stock wattage rotor. Mine will fly with only 8 cells also.
Those K&A models are really cool and I need to get one or.... two! However they appear to be roughly the same size as the wattage sabre in which case cp1300s are probably too big/heavy for the airframe.
Also be aware that at 17+ amp draws, these 1100s need good cooling and they only last about 50 cycles(yes 50) before rapidly going downhill. IMO they're worth it for the extra runtime.

Vasa and brushless

Thanks Ed and Bruce. I will look into both motors including the new Astro 4 turn 020. For my new Sabre. Wow Bruce I had heard that the Hecells had a limited lifespan when pushed above 20 amps. Its a good thing I got a bunch when they where on sale
I will keep you guys posted on my progress as soon as the plane arrives.
Thanks Joe

Vasa 65

Bruce, I looked at the Mega 16/15/3 for my Vasa 65 and they say to run it on 8-10 cells in a fan but do not say what the amp draw would be. Does anyone have any idea what the amp draw would be in the Vasa 65 on 10 cells? I need to keep it below 20 amps for my Hecells.
Bruce, I will make sure the cells have good cooling in the F86. I just got an email from Ken and it looks like my plane will be shipped before Thanksgiving I also will have one of the first kits out I cant wait to get it but I need to get a motor for it. So its either the Mega or the 4 turn 020.
Thanks Joe

Vasa 65

Bruce, I have Moto Calc. But it does not have the Vasa fans in the program. It has the Mega brushless motors but the fans it has are mostly Wemotec's. If I knew the numbers for the fan like diameter. Pitch and number of blades and spinner size I could plug them in and make a Vasa but I don't have that information. Does anyone know the information for the Vasa fans. Do they have a website by chance? Anyone have the URL?
Thanks Joe

4 turn 020

Thanks Bob, can you give us the motor KV and other numbers so I can plug it into Moto Calc? I wonder if the Vasa fan will perform like the Wattage?
Thanks Joe

On the stock wattage adapter maybe...
On a drilled out one...No way!

That Astro 4wind is a HOT motor!
Joe you can run the astro on 8 cells for a lighter AUW and lower ampdraw and it would still stomp the stock wattage motor on 10cells!

Motors

I got ya Bruce, but I am not running a wattage fan. I am using the Vasa 65 fan. So I am afraid the 4 turn 020 might be too hot for the Vasa and draw too many amps. More than 20 amps is not good for my Hecells I wish I had the url for the Vasa fans? Then I could plug the info into Moto Calc and test some motors?

Then you should wait til Astrobob tests the 020 in the Vasa before making a decision.
