yes, I don`t have depron where I am so I build everything from 10mm low density epp and dental floss reinforcement
as a side coment, 10mm epp can be lighter than 3mm depron
I have changed the 450 etecs (22gms without shrinking and excess of wire) for 460 hextronic (28gms - from unitedhobbies) and now I have way more power and flight times
Thanks for the pdf`s!

Reinforce with dental floss

Daniel

I am very interested in how you reinforce with dental floss. I was thinking about stiffening EPP in this way with Spider Wire filament fishing line just yesterday. Do you make an X across big areas or just run it like a spar? Do you do both sides? Do you in bed it in the foam or just glue it on the surface?

Regards

Just,

Some time ago I have posted my aproach to the problem with some pics:

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=545686

For wings I have also used a 1mm thick x 10cm x wingspan glued on the surface (both sides) and it worked really good ...will search for some pics of that

Are you using the mono version of spider wire or the stealth braided version. I just bought a roll of the stealth for control rigging and similar reinforcement.

I am using the Stealth braided version 50 Lb test. (Way overkill I know, but it is a little bigger and easier to work with and tie knots in it.) I use it now for everything even for hinge material.

50 Lb WoW! I went for the 20lb for the same reasons. I have a friend that is using 10lb but he is serious about weight. I didn't know about the braided stuff to start with and read about people using it the mono line stuff didn't seem like a good idea. Then I found the Stealth stuff. Ahhh haaa.

How about someone posting a photo of the box of the stealth spider wire.

That would be a great help!

Thanks Mini Ifo

This stuff is strong and will not stretch like normal fishing line, itís braded, and based on the synthetic spider web technology.

Thanks just shootme,

sorry about getting away from the thread topic, but this should work well.

Daniel Z, nice plane. We are dropping about 14 grams by using one of the E flight Park 250, or small hackers. These should fly this plane with no problem.

I have just ordered some of the 14g motors from united hobbies, and they look like they will be a good cheap light substitute.

Walmart has it now and its $11.xx which I thought was HIGH. Turns out WallyWorld isn't bad on it. I have heard of it being close to $20.00 at the fishing stores.

Mini ifo, I agree, think you could save some more using fullriver cells and lighter servos, I know I`m not using the most competitive/optimal setup

Galloping ghost, I have had very good results with dental floss, what is the advantage to use spiderwire?

Hi Daniel , i must say a very cool plane well done ! I have loads of EPP so this is very interesting for me , have you an AUW and how would you compare this bird to a volet or something of say a f3a depron plane ? The dreaded problem with EPP in my planes is tail wip it can be overcome allow this is at the expense of weight and we all know light is right . Again thanks for sharing with us your plane .
