Guys, I went to Barnes&Noble book store today, and I happend to find this incredible bargain book Titled "B-17 Combat Missions" for $12.98.
This is a modelers delight, it has the most incredible details of the interior of the B-17 that I've seen in a while, lots of pics.

I've ordered mine - thanks for the heads-up! $199 +tax +s&h.

I recently completed a Great Planes DC-3, and did some propeller power testing for it. Master Airscrew makes 3-bladed propellers in 6x4, 6x4 pusher, and 7x4 sizes, also 8x6. 6x4s and 6x4 pushers would be ideal for this project; counter-rotating 3-bladed props!

However. A 400T with the 7x4x3 on 3S generated 73 watts, not enough I fear for this plane. It'd be less than 300W overall. on the DC-3, I went for a 400F with the 6x4x3s, getting about 21A each at WOT. Obviously, I didn't open the throttle that far under normal circumstances. This wouldn't work for the B-17, since with 4 motors you'd be pulling over 80A peak. You'd fry the battery!

What would be ideal is a motor with output in between the 400F and 400T on 3S. Another option would be to try the 400T with the 7x4x3 on a 4S system, hopefully to get around a 10A draw for each motor. Maybe someone could do some bench testing?

don't know if the retracts come with the kit...adding details will add weight so she'll probably be at or over 5 lbs when all's said and done...at 5 lbs all up, 400 watts would be the minimum i'd be looking at...for 3 cells, the bp motors (2212-10, 2212-13) on mas 7x4x3 look like they should work...

Did some more testing. Using a 7x4x3 on 4S with an Aurora 400T was too much - close to 200 watts. However, the good news is that I put the 6x4x3 on with 4S and got the following: 9.99 Amps and 144 Watts peak! I only ran it for 10 seconds, but the motor seemed fine - not hot or anything. I'm sure if I kept up constant voltage it'd damage the motor, but for takeoffs and emergencies, I think it'll work. Woohoo! 3-bladed props!

No, I used cheapie CMPro retracts, more than enough. Like I said in the other bit, I used 4 x 2012-10 [1340kv] motors on 3s, with 8x6 props, getting a total of [550w for 1st 30 sec's dropping to] 480w....but watch this.....it's a little odd, on the set up just mentioned, it will fly around on 1/2-1/3 throttle, on 8x4 three blade props, power was down to 400w.....and it just wouldn't ROG......on 7x5 props, it flew soooooo slowly, just above the stall......go figure. Bear in mind, there is no room for anything bigger than 400's.

Sounds like not enough pitch speed to go above stall speed. It may also be due to not enough rpm since it sounds like you are using the same motor and battery. For smaller props/lower pitch props you often need to ramp up voltage or change gear ratio to get more rpm.

Another possibility is that some props are reversed and/or motors are turning in the opposite/wrong direction so you are losing lots of thrust without knowing. On a single motor plane this kind of oversight is easy to catch, but for 4 engine plane it is harder to notice because you may have more motors configured correctly and the plane can still move forward.

The 3-bladed props are very inefficient at 400T/3S speeds - just not the right blade airfoil for slow rpm's - like trying to fly a hotliner at 30mph. That's why I upped the rpm with the 4S.
