servo chatter

I just wired up a 4-servo sailplane wing with new Cirrus 21 servos. Two of the four chatter, one at center position, one at the travel limit. I've unwired them, reconnected them without the long leads, and they still chatter.

Do I have to replace them, or is there something I can do to stop them from fluttering?

New == under warranty == free replacement if they are defective, UNLESS you do something silly like attempt to disassemble them.

Send 'em back where you bought 'em from, and have them replaced.

Cirrus servos chattering...

Hello EdSoars,
Other than chattering,do the servos respond to the Tx inputs?
Are you using a 5 cell battery? If so try 4.
What Rx are you using? Is the Rx aerial bunched up or correctly strung
out?(You havn't trimmed your tenny ave you?)
If a single conversion Rx, switch to dual conversion.
Is there any RC activity in and around your home?
As far as returning Cirrus servos, the LHS I bought from referred me to the distributor.A search found "Global Hobby" and "Retail-Leaders" to be the
responsible parties however email was returned as undeliverable from
both.
I won't purchase items represented by retail leaders or Global Hobby
again.
Hope this helps.
Jay.

servo chatter

Thanks, guys, for the fast responses:

Yes, I've tried moving the Tx back. The Tx is a Hitec Eclipse. The Rx is a Hitec Superslim 8. I'm using 4 batteries for the onboard system. I didn't trim the antenna. I've checked the solder joints in my wiring harness, which uses a 4-pin Deans connector on each wing.

I'll try swapping the wings on the Rx channels. If the problem stays on the same wing, that'll narrow it down a bit.

After you carefully & painstakenly check out the servo specs(they always tell ONLY the good stuff) & narrow down a best price/delivery retailer, maybe do a quick pre-install check-out, isn't it a TOTAL bummer letdown when the d@@n things buzz & chatter (of course now perm installed & amplified by the nature of our liteweight construction like a speaker) in addition to just working like advertized ??? ....... i believe certain servo name brand/models do this on a regular basis to a total or very large percentage of new as received experience.....apparrently these things continue to make it thru factory QC (like they don't care) & shipped to dealers ..... i just don't want my new expensive ship sounding like a PoS no matter how "fast & perfect centering" the advertizing claims(which i doubt the average E- parkflier can really notice anyhow) but even the most uninformed observer can realize the stupid "that aint right" sound ...If any new servo is most likely to make abnormal noise, i think it should be required to add that to the product advertizing........it would sure save me (and maybe others )a lot of wasted time to just get the servo thing working right (just because you exchange it for same is NO guarantee you won't continue to receive good, buzz free servos) ...there should be some way of getting the factory to filter these abnormal REJECTS (unless the mfg designs by intent to buzz, in which case, Please advertize the fact before customer purchase so i can just delete that specfic brand/model from my purchase consideration list) from endinging up in my model.... anyone else bothered by this stupid servo problem....... kw

Yes have 4 new servos chattering at neutral in a 50 cc gasser. I pulled them and returned them. Got newones ,, still chattering . If this is normal there should be a disclaimer as you mentioned. I don't slam mfg's but I am beginning to just spend my $$ on servos that don't chatter. So if chatter is standard equipment then it should show on the window sticker .

Just fixed this same problem on my e flight extra 260. I had this problem with the servos on the rudder and elevator. Swapped 9 different servos in those positions. I ended up moving the linkage in two holes on the servo horn and out one on the surface horn. this made both surfaces rock solid! You probably already figured this out but thought id share for any others that may encounter this problem.
