Vancouver Aerotow 2007

Here's a few pics from the 2007 Vancouver Aerotow held July 6-8 at Mission, BC, Canada. I would have had more shots but spent too much time flying .

Great weather and Fred China organized another wonderful event!

Great pics Dave!!! The one of Andy's KA-8 looks to real to be a model. Next time get some more of that great looking tow plane and all those cruddy landings!!! Just kidding.

More pics...

Had to add a few pics of my own.

Man, the weather was sweet all weekend long, with good lift and lots of half-hour long flights. Highlights were Fred China's new Cimbora, Jim Laurel's new HF 6.6m Nimbus, and everyone else's cool ships. Thanks to Dan Borg, Steve Dentz, Bob Marchi and Gene Cope for the towing duties, who kept us airborne non-stop for the entire event.

I only hope next year is even close to being this good.

Don.

OUCH!!
That hurts to see this happen! But that Gerassis (?) DG-600 is one tough sailplane.. except for the wing rod... seems a bit soft...

It looks like you guys had a great time!

I've flown my Cortina from a dolly numerous times and haven't had this problem..... so far....
It looks like your dolly is too high which makes it a bit top heavy. I think mine sits about 6" from the rack to the ground with the wheels on.

Great pictures! thanks again

@ airbus, seadog, & dgliderguy :

Looks like you had another great event ! It has now been several years, that I have looked at the pics from the Yakima aerotow with envy

I would love to go there and share the fun with you guys, but with me located on Ohio, it's just a little too far away...

It always gives me pleasure to see Don's Ka8....
His building & flying report about the Flair Ka8, years ago in the S&E modeler magazine, is what prompted me to buy the kit, and that got me hooked on woody scale sailplanes.

See, at least I have someone to blame....

Michael,

That Flair Ka8b is into its ninth season this year, and still going strong. It is still one of my very favorite sailplanes to fly. I must have close to two hundred hours on it by now. Great design, great model.

None that I know of, Joe, but we are getting together again this weekend in Monroe, Wa., so I'll ask around.

Don, Bob,

Can you give me the particulars of the Pilatus B-4? I'm thinking that is around a 19.5' wingspan??

I thought I would compare those numbers to what I have.

Many thanks for the great pictures! Wish I could have been there!

The big Pilatus is owned by Bob Marchi, of Bob's Custom R/C:

I don't know much about it, except that it is a 40% scale rendition (which would put the span at 19.5', as you suggest).
