Build Log
Sea Dart float jet.

Basic idea I'm doing is a 28" wing span with a 4.5x44x5 inch fuse. Im thinking a 2.5 inch draft at idle. evelrons and rudder. twin GWS Brushless EDF 50's. I'm in the design stage still I have it drawn out, I just have to start cutting an glueing together. If it all works out like my TN F-16 project did, I'll post a set of plans. That is if I remember to draw it out like that, I do alot of this stuff in my head... Anyways, here we go, wish me luck, I'm going to use alot of the design ideas from the f-16 experence to do this. Build them light and build them fast!

going to do a full glassed hull. I feel like it will make it weigh more, but it will be more water tight.

No, with the 50's I'm thinking that I should make it as light as possible. When I Scale up to the 64 size model, I'll add the retracts. This is just to use those old 50's I bought last year to build an F-18 that flopped. First f18 was with the brushed motors... LOL oops... Second one I only had room for one fan... Opps again... Now with the help of some of the good folks here I got the understanding behind how this all works.. Light as possible good intake and exhaust setup. I have a plan I think it will work.

I have the hull, front fuse, all the control surfaces and electronics mounted. It's looking alright with going on just a picture. I wish I had some pics. I just went head long and did all this in a day and a half... Glide tested and the plane with all controls and battery and stuff flew accross the street from the front door.

Yes, at the Sun 'N Fun Museum in Lakeland one of the existing three YF2Y-1 Sea Darts SR# 135765 is on display, I took pictures a few months ago posted in another thread. The XF2Y-1 prototype is being restored at the Smithsonian.

HEY! What happened to this too-cool plane? The idea of a hydrofoil EDF has always kinda been in the back of my mind. So did she fly?

It will fly, just needs more power... I think some nice 55's will work well, but something with a little more juice will be just the ticket.

GWS = "Goes Weally Slow"
If Wemotec had the distribution channel that gws did their fans would be more widespread in use and so many more models would have flown the first time out I think. Maybe with brushless they are ok (with a big enough motor to get a decent power level) but brushed edfs are so last century!

Good luck Riflemen
