yeah i've just done a sample part and it's not good for one off items...there appears to be a minimum per part ,which up to a certain quantity will be divided amonst the total. eg the part i made was a planar squar loop about 1.5"x.7"x.62" the cost for one was $140
as was the cost for 25.($6 ea)

but for a group looking to get the same part(s) it could be economical
depending on design complexity and material.

lead time is not so great either--looking at about a month for delivery(cheapest option)

in any case it's nice to have the option of custom machining/CAD
available at the fingertips.

This is a great sticky! So I finally mined my bookmarks for more links to add...

I've happily ordered from these vendors:

http://www.amazon.com - A123 cells, metric bits, scales, rc heli books...
http://www.digikey.com - electronic components
http://www.eagletreesystems.com - flight data recorders
http://www.harborfreight.com - cheap machining & measuring tools
http://www.jameco.com - electronic components
http://www.lightflightrc.com - cheap motors/escs, spektrum gear, tp lipos

Bookmarked these vendors, but not yet ordered:

http://www.airdyn.com - some interesting hand-picked materials and tools
http://www.gothelirc.com - MaxiR/Sniper
http://www.hansenhobbies.com - servo connector kits
http://www.hobbylinc.com - huge selection of building materials and tools
http://www.kjmagnetics.com - neodymium magnets in every shape and size
http://www.rc-tek.com - RCT and SJM helicopters
http://www.robotmarketplace.com - prefab and custom carbon fiber sheets

Dragonfish, IMO it would be useful to group "Materials & Tools" vendors together, and then split the rest of the list into "North America", "Asia", "Europe", "Australia". I know, the larger heli/hobby vendors also carry materials and tools, but this would make it easier to focus on heli parts vendors, or on materials specialists. Just my 2 cents.

Most of the vendors in this post would fall under a "Materials & Tools" category. All of these vendors are in North America.

Really handy thread!

Having read about the possibility of dividing up the listings by continent, how about by state when in the US?? That helps when you want some critical part "yesterday".

You could add Mouser Electronics and Allied Electronics (both in TX) if you like. I have ordered from Mouser a great many times, and Allied a few times. Both have really great service.

Graves RC in Florida has lots of hard to find parts. Great service, though they determine shipping after the sale is complete, which is a little odd.

http://www.gravesrc.com/

RCSuperSales.net has lots of parts and kits. Located in the US, owner is an RC Groups member.

Hi,

Dragonfish, any progress on sorting the list by region (Europe, Asia, States, etc)? It is quite a job to find European sites only in the list.

dragon, i just thought of a new category that would make your list very unique.

it's the individual artisan types on places like rcgroups. eg there is supposedly a guy named walt here that makes bend resistant main shafts from ss tubing. others machine alum heads for various helis or do other custom mods etc. be nice to know

Two more tool vendors to add to the list:

http://www.micromark.com - broad range of small hobby tools (NJ, USA)
http://www.ehobbytools.com - deeeep selection of hobby tools in several categories (PN, USA)

I haven't ordered from them yet, but their websites sure are fun to browse! ehobbytools has insane variety; click on "magnifiers" or "tweezers" to see what I mean. micromark has some intriguing hard-to-find tools, like these:

MicroMark is a good place to do business.

I have ordered from them several times to get things for my mini-machining hobby. They surely do have a lot of interesting and unusual tools. I bought one of the Polypus forceps shown above. I don't use it often, but when I do it is usually because nothing else will work.

Another really handy couple of tools I got from them were "Pearl Tweezers", made with a concave surface in the face of each jaw - great for hanging onto small screw heads while you start them, and a tool that is devised to protect the insulation from melting adjacent to the end of a wire when you are soldering it. They are like 90-degree tweezers with a half-channel milled out of the face of each jaw. You clip the channel around the wire's insulation and it doesn't melt, right up tight against the solder joint.

Well, I've reworked the entire list in Excel but I can't figure out how to post it formatted. I also have the HTML of it, but that seems to be forbidden. Anyone think they can help me post it?

What kind of formatting? Columns are a real pain to do in these forums.

I think your best bet is to keep the same format as above, just grouped under headings, maybe with the state or country tacked on the end, e.g.

North America
http://www.acceleratedrc.com - home of the Hoss X4 TREX frame (TX)
http://www.advantagehobby.com - Heli-Max, Century, Eflite, Venom, hell little bit of everything (IL)
...

In fairness, perhaps this post should also have a link to the sponsors of these forums? http://www.rcgroups.com/pages/splist/

Yep, columns. Damn. I'm not big on the idea of linking to the sponsors page. If the vendor is worth ordering from, they would already be on the list. I really don't want this list to get too far away from what it is supposed to be, a list of vendors for Micro helis. Already there are vendors on there that don't really relate to micros or tools. Is the general opinion that we should have as many vendors as possible on there? Several only sell larger scale helis and I've been considering removing them from the list.
