SKSS Aerotow is ON! Newark, Delaware PICS NOW POSTED
Ok folks, the JR aerotow is over, from the published reports here on RCGroups a great time was had by all who attended. Whats that? you did not make it this year? Well neither did I, thats why our club The Silent Knights Soaring Society has decided to hold our own "East Coast" Aerotow event with a twist.
The twist you ask? We will be towing "All Electric only", thats right no gas, glow or noisy weed whacker motors allowed! Currently we have three electric tugs with the possiblity of at least five available from our club alone. Our field is wide open with plenty of overfly area. On site 110v available for charging as well as high capacity 12v available right on the flight line. Lunch will be available on site both days. Motels are 10 minutes away as well as a large shopping mall for Tax Free shopping. We are currently negotiating with several vendors as well as magazine coverage and expect to have a fairly large turnout. Attached is our event flyer which has more info as well as a link to our club web site SKSS.org If interested in attending please feel free to reply here or pm me directly. cooper998 Last edited by cooper998; Aug 11, 2007 at 07:22 PM. |

OK folks, two weeks to go! Havent had too many responses but I'm psyched!
Friday the 10th will be a "warmup day" anyone who want to show up early we will be at the field setting up and doing some practicing. Will also have a winch setup on Friday in case anyone want to fly off of it and hunt for thermals. Preparations are being made for a great lunch on Saturday and Sunday. So what are you waiting for, start packing! If you have an electric tow plane please let us know in advance, we currently have four planes with a fifth one being completed as I write, cooper998 |

Cooper, have you heard anything about the lunch menu? Is Rick going to try to top the FEAST that we had at the ESL contest? |

Saturday report with pics and video to follow
The day dawned cloudy and cool but we knew it would be a great day. By mid morning the clouds burned off and we were treated to a beautiful sunny day with light winds straight down the runway. Five electric tow planes ready and there was very little waiting, mostly for other planes landing or occupying the pattern. We had fourteen pilots some with several planes ready to search the skies for thermals, and many were found. Thermal activity was good for the most part and many pilots stayed up for some lengthy flights. I have added some pics here and hope to have some video available later tonight.
cooper998 Just uploaded a video to that "other" site, check it out HERE Last edited by cooper998; Aug 11, 2007 at 08:43 PM. |

The camera can be mounted just about anywhere. Today we will be mounting on a sailplane to get the "other" perspective. We tried yesterday but we had the angle wrong and we just saw sky. cooper998 |

Sunday Update
Another beautiful day! Turnout was down as was expected but after a slow start we were back to towing. Lift was hard to find with only a couple of flyers staying up for any length of time. Today I was able to video Bills ASW from my Rascal 110 tow plane and it came out better than expected, you can see it HERE . Joedoe also posted a video of yesterday's activities HERE Check out post #37.
Well I can safely say our first "All Electric" Aerotow event was a success, and we are already planning for a larger event next year. Myself, and all the SKSS flyers would like to thank all the flyers who came to share in our fun and we hope to see you all next year. cooper998 |

Unfortunately I missed the fun that was had, since I ws driving back from my vacation in Florida. I did manage to get off "I95" justin time to see everyone pack up to go home.
I asked if I could fly my "L213" that I electrified, amd they cheered me on. What a nice bunch of guys that I met, I could still feel the energy of a very successfull weekend. The field is beautifully manacured and open with lots of room for flying scale. I will definitely put this one on my calender for next year. Thanks guys, Regards, Richard |
