You asked for it... getting more from your Hitec 555

One of the local club members has info on pulling channels 6,7 and 8 out of your Hitec 555. I had a couple of guys ask me for the URL for this so here it is. He's got pictures on his site and a link to technical directions on how to do it. This may not come as anything new to some of you, but for others, click the URL below. http://www.users.qwest.net/~slickraft/slickraft2_5a.htm http://www.withinc.com/~wwang/HitecMod.jpg

Good luck
Tom

Hi:
If you want to make the first mod, i.e., change 5 to 6, and have a computer radio (which this guy seems to have) you don't need to do anything to the receiver. On my Futaba 8UAPS, I mix Ch. 5 into Ch 5 -100% both ways. This kills the retract switch. I then mix Ch. 6 into Ch. 5, so that Ch.6 now comes out on the plug for Ch. 5. No cutting or soldering.
Of course, if you need extra channels, the next link tells you how (if you are brave).
Regards,
Bob Stewart

Unfortunately the new Hitec Eclipse won't do that (I thought it would until I got one and called Hitec to verify it wouldn't). In dual aileron mode you need channel 6, 5 is for retracts. So, thanks for the info Tom!

Thanks! That info was right in time. I was about to give up on a twin project for now because I need more channel than my 535 has. Much appreciated.

I can't understand why the new HITEC transmitter doesn't support flaperons with their own 5-channel receiver. Seems like a major oversight..

Andy,
I thought that too. Guess I didn't read (or see)the fine print before I bought the Eclipse. It is really a fine radio though. I was "unoficially" told that the Superslim 8 rx is basically the same board as the 555 but with all the runs hooked to the IC. Oh well, cheaper to get the soldering iron out than the wallet.

Andy- YEP.
I looked a long time to figure out how to use the "ACRO" mode with flaperons on a 5 channel RX. NOPE.
