Large electric night flyer at SEFF

Night flight at SEFF (1 min 13 sec)

My brother just got around to pulling this off of his video camera. Pretty awesome stuff.

This thing has about a 7-8" span for scale reference.

Please forgive the babbling of the 12-14 year old who would not zip it... He never did the entire weekend... If he is your kid sorry. Not for the comment, sorry he is yours. (KIDDING! )

Answer: A bunch!

The guy said the lights were from aisle lighting on an airliner.

Very intricate work!

That's a good idea, but where would you get them? I bet they were expensive, too.

I wish I had that plane...

Yeah it really was cool. I mean as long as you knew you were in clear space you could fly that just like in the middle of the day. Zero orientation problems.

My bros and I swear that we will have something (on a lesser scale of course) to fly at night for next year's SEFF.

Hi All,

That's my big Nightflyer. Ernie Schlumberger, Mike DeBoer, and Steve Smith helped me build it. Specs are:

114" span
3100 sq. in.
17 lbs
Axi 5330/24 w/ 22X12 or 24X12 prop
Castle HV 45 controller
Electric Power 10 S for motor, 8 3600's for lights, 5 800's for receiver
300 lights, small 6v lights
cowl and canopy are lost foam fiberglass
Ernie bent up the main and tail gear
I built the control horns and pushrods from carbon fiber

Yes, some of the lights are take offs from 767 asile lites, but the majority were bought at about 50 cents each. I wanted to show everyone you don't need to spend a fortune to have a unique plane. Here's the cost.

Airframe, balsa and pine $75.00
Covering, monocote $80.00
Servos $130.00
Lites, apx 300 $150.00
Hobby Lobby donated the motor
Castle donated the speedcontroller
Xus Batteries donated the 2 5S packs

I have some mods to do to the plane before NEAT. See it there.

Heh!
I learned long ago that to get attention at a fly-in all you need to do is something different. It has nothing to do with cost, size or power.

I love night flyers!!

I love to see your night flyer Ric. It is always a treat to see it...

Also, I just HAD to watch the video to see if it was MY 12-14 year old that wouldn't shut up

It wasn't, but I DO remember the kid that is behind the voice.
