The main problem going to anything larger than a 12" prop on the Boomerang is the ground clearance and I don't fancy changing it to a tail dragger at this time. After all the kit cost less than $100 and might as well of gone out and bought another kit that is electric.
I am still committed to the conversion as I have purchased all that I need except the material to build the stand off firewall. I may try a 5s after I maiden if the performance is not up to my expectation.

Thanks,

Shaun.

Hi I think you will be quite happy when Areomanic reports what was found this morning, I wont take his thunder.

He will have a picture to go with his report of the motor and mounts, now the top holes are just a little narrower than the motor mount, that I filed out a touch so they matched the original holes in the bulkhead.

The lower holes are a mile out, but just put a 4mm bolt in the thread lose and push it back to break the glue, then mount the motor bracket by the top holes as a template to drill the new holes for the blind nuts and then refit the blind nuts into the new holes.

Well has golf lake hinted, the flight report of the Boomerang with the G46 was very good, the motor proved to be a very good choice and was very economical as well. With all the trimming flights done on the previous weekend, which included having the downthrust and CofG adjusted, the Boomerang at first would climb steeply under power and dive in glide, moving the motor back helped the CofG and and downthrust was adjusted on the motor.

A timer was set for 8mins, so the 1st flight consisted of variety of flying, rolls and loops and the odd vertical and a good amount of 1/2 power cruising, on landing the pack voltage was 15.3v and was charged up after cooling and took 2003mah.

Same timer setting of 8mins for the 2nd battery and flight, the flight included inverted flight and a couple of low and slow flybys with throttling up into a vertical. It seemed that the second battery was flown harder yet on landing the pack voltage was 15.4v and when charged took 2005mah.

In summary the G46 and 12x8 with 500mah 4s pack is extremely good power combo for the Boomerang 40, because it was so economical we are thinking of trying a 3bl 12x8 to see what changes, http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...305x204mm.html , this will still keep the ground clearance with the 12inch prop with the hope of improving the flight performance.

Aero and Golf thanks guy's for your input, your info is what is needed. Please lets us know how the 3 bladed goes as I too have 2 and 3 bladed props to try from 12x10 down to 11x5 all up about 8 different ones.

Jeff looks like we are on the right track buddy, let me know how you are going I think I will start a blog page with this Boomerang conversion.
I have had a mixed day flying today with my Dad, he maidened his Bixler and I crashed and wrecked my hotted up Skyfun Jet and put 10 packs through my T-28 Fun Fighter with out a hassle (fast little bugger it is), makes my old eye's work hard

Thanks again everyone.

Shaun.

you guys are using 4s batteries. Would X2 2s in a series do the same job?? i only have a balance charger and looking at doing a conversion and don't want to fork out 50 odd bucks.

No reason why you can't if, as long they are the same battery, age, usage and manufacturer. Otherwise they may discharge unevenly and for the cost of the right battery is it really worth it ?.

Batteries series double the voltage but the capacity stays the same, whereas in parallel the capacity doubles and the voltage stays the same.

I just finished my Boomerang 40 ep convertion, and she flies great plenty of power and stable.
items:
Turnigy C5055 600kv
Red brick esc 100amp
12x6 prop
Homemade switch for the batt, as i found it a little dangerous when conecting the batt and having it live while you attach wings,..

Also the last photo shows angle of motor mount as i did find on the first flight that she pulled straight up as the air was forced under the wing, with this angle there is only a slight climb at full power..
the switch is just glued in place and then you connect the deabns plug completing the loop.. the guys at the club were very impressed with the way she flies..
