Reinforcing tape

Here is a demonstration of what a little of Sloper Steve's strapping tape can do for epp.

I cut two strips of 1.3#, 6 mm, 1" wide by 12 " long epp foam. One of them had a strip of 1/2" wide strapping tape added to the top and bottom...guess which one?

The 1/2" tape weighs about .5 gr per foot.

Hey Realtime,

What are you going to buy? Why does it need to be reinforced?

There are lots of experienced people who can help you, they'll just need a little more to go on.

Realtime,

Here is a link to a thread/discussion about the Busy Bee. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...+reinforcement
You should be able to get the help you need from the flyers experienced with this kit.

It is a very nice looking plane. Good luck!

I think most spray paints would fit the definition of a "spray on plastic".

If you are still thinking of reinforcing, I have read about people using water based urethane together with 1/2 oz fiberglass cloth to reinforce foam. I can't recall if they specifcally did this with epp. Maybe someone else could comment on this??

Dual glue

I just tried a variation on the chemical pinning technique for using urethane glue.

I ran a bead of urethane glue but I left a few small bare spots. In these bare spots I put a small drop of hot glue. Worked great!

Why bother with urethane??? I seem to be able to save weight using this over hot glue and it is very strong .

TF I think if you read the first page of this thread you will find that both planes and the decal method are listed with links.

I have no problem with you using my material as I told you when you PM'd me, but it would be courteous to give credit to the peoples work you are using or a link back to their original thread. I believe MrFlash expressed his views yesterday here : http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...postcount=5100

Back on topic...

Dan, I'm really pleased you've managed to get this thread 'stickied' congrats! Another nice technique for pinning too, I might have to get the glue gun out of retirement.

Plans are now drawn up for the EPP Cutlass, Tomcor is just checking the dimensions against his model and then they will be posted.

Si.

Thanks Si, I hope this thread going to be helpful to the scratch builders.

The EPP Cutlass will be a nice addition to the plans. It looks like a really nice flyer, goood looking without being too complicated to build.

To everybody: I'll do my best to give credit where credit is due...I need your help for this and also I'll need you help to conitnue building this thread. Thanks for all of the input and feedback so far!

Dan
