Here is mine:

I agree that the water slide decals are not as good as the contact adhesive ones. The decals split and peel to easily. Also, can you order replacement foam spinners? If so, from who and what is the part number? Mine each came off in flight and were chopped up by the spinning prop!! ( Bad design GWS ! )

Congratulations: NICE LOOKING PLANE !!

You can see the parts listing at: (First item on the page)
http://www.caliberhobby.com/gws40_parts.html

However, I try not to buy from them ! Their shipping costs suck !!

I let them know when I recommend someone to do what I do in hopes of encouraging them to get their shipping costs down !

I get the information
from them and then telephone Epyaya and order from them at: (626) 570-8088. Epyaya has to order from the store but they are located very close and the effort does not take a lot of time.

By the way, I put a 2-56 tap into a brass rod and squeeze the end to form a flat. I then thread the brass tubing onto my prop shaft, put some white glue on that and press the rubberized spinner onto the brass tubing. I ain't never had a spinner come off yet. (5 ea. P-58's , and 1 P-40.)

I just used a 3" dubro spinner. A bit heavier, but the plane balanced without any lead...
Graupner also makes a nice 3 blade spinner.

I too used a DuBro 3" 3-blade spinner. Worked great until I flew the plane nose first directly into a lightpole!

Nice bird Jismail. Just a few comments

1) add some paint to the cowling plugs
2) don't leave it sitting in the sun , the cowl and canopy like to warp badly!
3) Enjoy, it does nice looking low and fast flybys

Sorry to hear your GWS P40's spinner came off in flight and were chopped up by the spinning prop!!

I will try to redesign how to hold it tight.

My new GWS P-40.

How about a real plastic spinner and a pilot GWS4CEO? I cant see this foam spinner lasting very long, but a foam pilot would be great.

Here are links to two different mods to the GWS-40 spinner.

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...&postcount=470

Both these spinner mods have proven to give a secure spinner. A spinner with the second mod is shown supporting the whole aeroplane in this link. This type spinner has now had many flights and 3 crashes on my EPO GWS-40 and refuses to come off without a lot of effort with pulling.

Thanks Ken I'll check those links. It would be nice not to have to modify the spinner though. Moulded foam pilots would be a great addition to the kits too. GWS might even find they sell lots of them as spare parts for other models, just like Park Zone have done well selling their pilots to GWS customers.

Chris

Its my belief that the Me 109 and GWS-40 spinners come off because ther are only supported at the front. This allows the rear to wobble and causes the rubber and the foam to separate.

Mod No 2 could easily be included in the GWS-40 kit because all that is required is a molded plastic back plate to steady the rear of the spinner. I think that magnets would not be required if two spikes (three spikes for a 3 blade prop) that pushed into the foam were molded onto the back plate. To ensure that separation does not occur I now roughen the rubber spinner with emery paper and use Gorilla Glue.

GWS has already applied this backplate solution to the EDF-75 fan to produce smoother running at high RPM.
