The 'how to' is awesome thank you. Now the big question is how much for a hand drawn template on vellum so I can cut templates? You are very talented at that. I can only draw mechanical drawings on a cad system. When it comes to free hand like that I get a big fat "F"!

Agreed. A molded EPP fuse would be awesome. Someone tell Multiplex to get busy!

Thanks for the how-to, Maybz. It's very well written.

I think I'd have to do something much simpler but seeing the techniques you used helps a lot.

Maybe I'll go for something more stylised than realistic, because I don't have that sort of skill. I've been noticing lately how easy it is to see the orientation of magpies in flight. I thought of painting a plane to look a bit like one, but an EPP Eagle would be better.

Placed my order tonight.

Just moved to NC so this should shake up the local wildlife.

Just got mine ( 2 ! ) a few minutes ago.

Maybz - wonderful tutorial on painting.

Andy2No - the magpie scheme looks good.

I am going to work on the front end to try to get a folding prop to fit.

I'm thinking a Blue Wonder 1100KV with a 9 x 5 folder on 3S?

This taiwanese EPP is interesting, it has a different texture to the european epp and chinese molded epp that I have seen. Maybe as a result of how they make or cut the sheets?

The beads in the foam look smaller and feels more grainy. I'll be using my favorite chinese foam goop to assemble this.

Quick test for folding prop

I laid out the bottom of the fuselage.

Placed a piece of masking tape to match the position of the firewall.

Using the HXT motor mount with the Blue Wonder 1100kv.

That's an MPJet Super Cool Spinner with a 40mm pitch (the distance between the blade pins), 3mm collet (matches BW shaft) and 9 x 5 folding blades.

Looks like it will fit and the blades will fold ok in the horizontal plane which is the widest part of the beak.

Update

Ok here's a partially assembled beak. This is STOCK, no modifications to the foam.

It really looks as if a 40mm pitch folder will fit okay.

Deadduck,
Shape is looking good, will be interesting to see if you can keep the eagle beak shape. Would be great if it works!

cheers, Paul.

Right now I'm finishing up a 12' Telemaster so this should come in at the right time.

Question:
This is my first foamy so what type of glue do you use on this type material?

Thanks,

DD

EPP can be glued with regular CA and kicker. But I like UHU Por (prolly the same stuff as in the can shown above!). Epoxy is too heavy.
