Oh for the love of Pete.. now I need to modify the thread to have (in true MAD Magazine "Spy vs. Spy" style) "Anti-antipiracy" warnings?

I think I will update the source info in the first posting once again... and let's nit turn this thread into a copyright/piracy whizzer, OK? This thread is about the construction and enjoyment of an EPP bird model. That is it.

To those of you who have built and flown both the EPP Eagle
and Easystar: Which model do you think would be best for a
beginner? I ask in terms of durability and ease of flying.

Having not seen any pictures or videos of the Eagle in pieces,
I would think that it would be the better plane. Also looks
like one can be flown in a smaller area than the EZ.

Last how do you determine motor size for a particular plane?
I am looking to either:

1) Fly slowly for as long as possible on a battery in the 1800 to 2200 size when thermals are nil.

2) Get as many climbs to a certain altitude, cut the motor and
thermal / drift back down.

Thanks,
David

hoverinfool,

I have had both and would recommend the easy star for the beginner. Better assembly manual, less decisions to make, and it comes both in kit form and ready to fly which includes battery, charger, radio, in order to get someone into the air quickly.

The easy star, having a more conventional layout, is less sensitive in pitch. Since it is for beginners the easy star is less responsive to over controlling. Over controlling being the beginner's tendency to bang the sticks from side to side or forwards and backwards.

The reason I like the eagle is its unconventional layout which resembles a bird rather than an airplane. Although fairly tough, parts can be broken as you can see by the pictures included in this thread. The eagle requires more finesse in managing the various balance points, motor angles, and power versus control mixing to allow smooth effortless appearing flight. Consequently, the eagle might make a somewhat frustrating beginning aircraft.

A fellow club member showed up with this plane/bird a few weeks back and I was really impressed by the design. I shot some video and came to find the thread so I could get one of these for myself. This would be great to take up into the mountains on campouts or to the lake.

It loads a bit slow, but once it's going, double click in the video window to go full screen. It's HD video.

Great video. It shows off the paint scheme really well. Is there any way to download it from there?

OK GB:

Thank you for the reply. I too like the looks of the Eagle, as it reminds me of a kite
I once had.

I guess the EZ is a better "first plane" for me, in that there is a ton of information on it
throughout this board.

Thanks and happy flying,

Dave

hobie14, I can't take credit for anything but shooting the video. The sweet paint job and plane are JonBoyLemon's work. He did a great job. I found a guy on Ebay that's selling these prepainted. I think I'm going to get one of those, just because I've got so many other projects on the bench or waiting on the shelf.

EDIT: I deleted the video in the former post. It can be found here instead with the interlacing removed.

EPP Eagle RC Plane from Ebay - HD (2 min 59 sec)

Andy2No,

Yeah, if you log in to Vimeo you can download the source video. There's a button on the right panel for downloading source. That's one of the coolest features of Vimeo, IMO. Sorry, the video evidently was interlaced. I thought I was shooting 24P. I don't know how to deinterlace in Vegas. Help doesn't actually help any.

Eagle throws

i use an Optic 6 and set the throws 'til the tails just touch then set the EXP to 100% for a soft touch around center and I can get some real tight loops. My first flight flight with it lasted a half hour with an 1800 lipo and still had power. I also added landing gear so I can takeoff and land. It rolls about 8 feet and jumps into the air.

Here's a low res vid. sorry 'bout the lack of quality, but you get the picture. Any help on how to post a larger file with better quality? I have a clearer vid but the sound is the same.
