Wing Bolt continued

Some progress on the wing bolts.

Still have to do the bolt seats in the wings.

Neat. But isn't 3/16" ply overkill?

Probably.

The facing plate (on the underside of the top fuse piece) and wing saddle reinforcements are 0.8mm ply.

I had just the right shape and size scraps in 3/16". Waste not want not.

Looks good let us know how it holds up, I like the idea of wing bolts much better than rubber bands. For the maiden flight I don't mind the bands since if things don't go well the wing should come off. I programmed my Spektrum radio so she's ready for tomorrow weather permitting!

I'm thinking of using rubber bands for the maiden, just in case.

Dont sweat the maiden. Set the CG at 6cm. I had all neutral surfaces, gave it half throttle and it flew out of my hand and climbed nicely. This plane goes by itself!

I don't think you could crash it if you tried.
Like Don said, it will fly out of your hand.

It actually soars better than some of my gliders do.

Dimensions

Could someone measure the wing tail and fuse and post the rough dimensions? Thanks in advance.

Nice job on the wing bolt deal. I was thinking of a slide lock at the front and magnets at the back.

Ailerons maybe ?

Do any of you Eagle owners think it is possible that it could be converted to have ailerons ? Seems there is little dihedral, and maybe the "feathers" that extend behind the trailing edge could be used ? Is there enough material to do this ? or is the hollow wing going to cause some problems ? I think a sloping version would be nice.. with just ailerons and elevator.

Liking this thread..

Lk That's why I asked about dimensions. Want to build an elmers board version with ailerons and a light outrunner/small prop version.

LKC,

It seems that I recall a magazine article about someone who scratch built a Turkey Vulture sailplane the had a special connector that allowed him to use the feathers at the end of the wings as ailerons just like the bird. When I get home tonight I see if I can find it...no guarentees since we moved to a new house last month. Still can't find all my r/c gear that I boxed up.

My wife just called to let me know that my eagle has landed. Mike wasn't kidding about four business days.
Just before that order, I had ordered another cellpro charger and was looking last night at the tracking. It went from Maryland to Pennsylvania to West Virginia to Lexington, Kentucky yesterday. Even though that's only 5-6 hours away by car, UPS said to expect delivery tomorrow instead of today?? A kit from Taiwan beats a charger from two states away. Go figure.

Your so right Ben, I got my Eagle in about the same time, ordered a kit from the west coast and it's still not here yet and it was mailed out a day earlier. What's up with that??

P.S. Now get busy and get your eagle airborne Ben!
